MLPs And Interest Rates, How Right Is Mr. Gundlach? [View article]
I think one has to develop an informed "instinct" by reading everything you can and good authors like Phillip and distill it all every day in one's subconscious and then buy when your sub-c gives you the impulse. I have done very well using this philosophy. Maybe I am just lucky, but I am out-pacing my friends and colleagues, and have ever since the Great Recession started.
I mostly agree with the comments. Also, one must look at "Total Return" when evaluating a position. Dividend PLUS growth must be considered. Then you get total return which is what you should be following.
IF all stockholders sell in May won't that herd mentality become a self-fulfilling prophecy?!? I say, let's see what happens, don't sell, and when and if the market bottoms, buy more of the stocks you already own - as in "buy low, sell high" to quote, among others, Mr. Warren Buffett!!

I have been buying HIMX for several years and have a substantial position in the stock. I have been reading and searching but have found no confirmation that they will provide the glass for Google. Do you have any more confirmatory information? I note that since this arrangement was published, the stock continues to rise though there are indeed some naysayers in the spectrum of comments. Thanks for a great piece. Richard Beaudry
MLPs have suffered during the past week on worries their tax treatment could be changed in any fiscal cliff deal, but WSJ's Liam Denning thinks their weakness also speaks to broader valuation concerns. High-yield securities have been in demand amid ultra-low interest rates, and the Alerian MLP (AMJ) hit an all-time high last month. But after the recent correction, MLPs may be looking more attractive. [View news story]
I've lost $72K since 11/1 - what's up with this? My investments particularly hit are MLPS and REITS? Politics? Tax concerns? Fiscal cliff?

Where can we get a constant listing of Total return? In order to make knowlegeable decisions, one must have gain plus dividend. Great article - keep it up. You are a writer! Dick1366
This theory begs the question: will it stand the discipline of back testing? MSFT has been a major laggard in my portfolio on which I planned to retire. My investments in other dividend stocks (including MLP's) have returned much better results than MSFT. Also, PCAR, has been a long term winner, with a healthy dividend, putting its neighbor to shame. I have lost faith in MSFT ever since its great creator decided he'd better earn his way into heaven through charitable works. Lots of luck, Bill. RPB
As a retired lawyer I have turned more emphasis toward investing. PCAR is the "quiet giant" and has been a better investment than MSFT which usually disappoints. It pays a good dividend and has done so for many many years consistently. It is definitely one to retire with.

Ned Davis Research finds MLPs in a familiar bind: They look rich by historical standards but not relative to income investing alternatives. Judging MLPs just by distributable cash flow, their 6.85% average DCF yield is well below their long-term 9.2% median, which would make MLPs “dramatically overvalued."
