  • The Stellar Kraft Heinz Board Of Directors [View article]
I've owned BRK and would have enjoyed having a dividend. I owned both Kraft and Heinz for the dividend an Buffet took those away from me. Now I have a chance to get them back and hope they share the wealth with a dividend. I think I will give it a try if it pulls back a bit.

  • Delta pilots reject labor contract deal [View news story]
Great to see the pilots and management fighting again. The stock price will again be reflected in labor agreements as much or more than fuel prices. Competition will again prevail, prices will be under pressure, more seat miles will be available and if the government can keep the CEO's from price fixing then the stock prices will fall along with the price of airline tickets. We were told this would take place when the industry was deregulated but no one projected the oil glut. This was a bonus... a huge bonus creating huge profits for the few airlines that didn't seek bankruptcy or get swallowed in a merger. It's about time to sell the airlines..... it's not going to get any better than it is today.

  • Lumber Liquidators, Formaldehyde And Asbestos [View article]
Mr Tilson: I have been waiting to see if more short positions would join you in your effort to drive LL down a few more dollars before going from short to long. As I have not previously owned LL, would you agree with me in assuming the short position requiring a further reduction in price seems unlikely and give me your blessing in taking a long position in LL tomorrow morning?

  • Second Annual Portfolio Super Bowl [View article]
OIL...... That's the 64 billion dollar question right now, isn't it. Our technology has moved the goalpost. In ten years I predict that the cover of National Geographic will claim that we have reached the end of cheap oil and it will be north of $200. What happens between now and then? A lot of money will be made and lost in the "oil patch".... that,s for sure.

I think at todays valuations, I would consider switching horses...... get off the airlines and back to the oil companies.

  • Duke Energy Retains Importance For Investors' Income Portfolios [View article]
Duke will be around in five years, as well as their dividend. The stock value may offset the dividend...... Guess a dividend is as good (or better) than a capital gain and you don't have to figure out when to sell. I'll stay long for awhile.

  • Just How Risky Is High-Yield Dividend Investing? [View article]
So where do you put these REITS, MLP's etc., they aren't very tax friendly and they don't play nice in your IRA's.

So where do you put those REITS, MLP's and BDC's..... Regular brokerage account, an IRS.... They aren't very tax friendly and can confuse a tax advantaged portfolio.

  • Warren Buffett Shows Investors What Not To Do [View article]
I have to agree with Whitney on this one. If I was going to be a serious investor with two or three stocks then I would invest in my own business and own only one. There is no way I could put my entire investment portfolio into two or three stocks and then do anything but hang out at the CEO's offices, god forbid I could ever take a vacation. I would much rather have something in the neighborhood of twenty to fifty stocks, then if one takes a big hit then it's just a fraction of my portfolio and I don't have to sell my house.

  • The Best Passive Retirement Strategy In The World [View article]
Hey Joe: Just catching up on my SA reading and finished your article and comments. I do like to play with ideas as I am retired and live on SS and a couple of modest pensions plus investments. I've done pretty much what you have suggested using bonds instead of CD's and have become frustrated (bored) with the fixed income. Even as a fairly conservative retiree I have my entire liquid net worth in stocks. Here's my reasoning. If I have a bad year in the markets..... maybe I don't take a vacation to Europe or buy a new BMW...... In a good year, well maybe I'll burn some of that "easy money" but if you have the money you say you will need then you can probably suffer through a few years with portfolio losses and still survive. If you have to sell something at a loss then you can carry forward to the time you get to sell something at a profit and pay no capital gains taxes. It works for me and that CD looks like a wad of money hidden under my mattress. There is nothing at all wrong (IMO) with your retirement plan. I bet you have a bunch of insurance policies as well, right? Different strokes for different folks. Good luck with yours, I know it's safer than mine but I just never subscribed to the ratholing of money as I got older. Have some fun!

  • Costco Is Experimenting To Attract A Younger Generation [View article]
A few million in membership fees and a few million in profit from a ten percent markup and pretty soon you have enough money to payout a few million in dividends with a few bucks left over. A pretty solid formula that works in good times and bad. Staying long COST.
