    The salvation is when ethanol can be cheaply produced from things other than corn (i.e. the corn husk and other previously discarded material.) The ethanol from corn mandate was too specific and technically easy. At least part of the infrastructure is now in place.

    It could also be confounded by importing ethanol and using other feedstock beside corn to produce ethanol.

  • Do Biofuels Harm More than They Help? [View article]
    There's logic test about being stranded on an island with cereal and chickens. Do you feed the chickens so they don't starve eventually eating the chickens, or do you eat the chickens first because the cereal can be stored? I may be leaving out details, but the logical answer was to minimize the energy used to maximize your caloric intake (ans: eat the chickens while they are fat, eat the cereal later).
