  • Is Black Gold Worth More than Real Gold? [View article]
Since Obama, Reid, Pelosi, et al will not allow oil drilling or exploration, I believe that oil will soon become more precious, at least till the 2010 elections begin to change the makeup of congress. However, I would not bet against gold, with our printing presses rolling off trillions of $ nonstop. Inflation is a certainty, how soon is the question. Where's the birth certificate???

  • Crude Reality: Big Oil's Purposely Restricting Supply [View article]
Wind and solar are wonderful ideas, except for one thing---the sun doesn't shine 24/7, and the wind also doesn't blow 24/7. Most places, it gets dark at night, and the wind also goes down after sunset. If we had batteries that were large enough to store a lot of energy, it'd be OK, but we don't. So---coal and nuclear generators will have to take up the slack during the time when solar/wind is not generating. The problem with that is that these type of plants take at least 12-24 hours to go from a low output to full generation. So, while the wind/solar generators are going full blast, the coal/nuke plants will have to slow down. Then, when solar/wind falls off, the coal/nuke plants will have to be ready almost instantly to take up the slack. That's a big problem that will have to be worked out. Also, in the evening when the sun goes down seems to be the peak time for electrical demand.

  • Crude Reality: Big Oil's Purposely Restricting Supply [View article]
Their are very few facts that hasn't been distorted in yore article:

    1. We actually don't know for sure how much oil is offshore or in ANWR. The Dems have blocked even exploration on these deposits.

    2. The oil discovery in North Dakota, southern Canada, and neighboring states holds over 500 BILLION barrels of oil. Granted, it will be difficult to obtain it, but given good old American ingenuity, we will get it, and get it far cheaper than you libs would ever imagine.

    3. The two oilmen in the White House are advocating that we drill, and drill now. It was King Bill Clinton of priapism who vetoed drilling in ANWR. It is N. Pelosi of San Francisco who refuses to allow a vote in congress, when over 70% of Americans want one.

    No more oil shortages
    No tax hikes

  • Oil Prices and Political Energy [View article]
When the average citizen has to fill his/her heating oil tank this fall, I predict that there will be some major changes in the political arena. Our senior senator has consistently voted to block any new drilling, and so has our local representative. I for one, plan to REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

  • Thursday's Energy Trader: Oil Says 'See Ya Later' [View article]
I live at the southern end of the Red River Valley of the north. About 14,000 years ago, the spot where my house now stands would have been covered by about 1.5 miles of ice and snow. A huge glacier that came down from the Arctic Circle got as far south as slightly below the border between North and South Dakota. About 12,000 years ago, the glacier melted, and a huge lake was formed (Lake Agassiz). This huge lake covered many thousands of square miles, and the lake bed that was formed is now the Red River Valley of the North. This is now some very fertile farm land.

My question for those who believe that global warming is manmade is this: What caused this huge glacier to melt? Of course, around 12,000 years ago, the first Native Americans arrived in this area. Perhaps it was the smoke from their campfires? Or their arrows punching holes in the ozone layer?
