  • Demand for guns in the U.S. slows down [View news story]
Seems that all that hoarders have spent their gun funds by now. Ammo is starting to stay on the shelves longer now, even though some is still hard to find, and where a year ago you couldn't find an AR15 style rifle anywhere they are now everywhere.

My whole family and my wife's relatives as well all have CCW's. So where did you get that "misinformation"? Of course you have to go through a background check, even if you have several carry permits (your states and some others perhaps?). I know from experience, okay?

  • Demand trends in gun sector up for debate [View news story]
Once the gun buying starts, it often escalates as folks realize how cool they can be and then want different types and calibers. Most people don't stop with one and some buy many different ones. The time period for this will, of course, vary from person to person.

  • Gun and ammunition sales forecast to rise 20% [View news story]
The prices for ammo, if you can get it, is rising rapidly. All the latest catalogs show their ammo but say "call for prices" because they can't predict the price prior to publication of their catalogs.
I've switched to reloading, but even the equipment is getting harder and more expensive to buy.

  • More on Hecla Mining's (HL) Q1 results: Average realized silver prices fell 21%. Cash costs almost tripled to $7.02/oz., partly due to production start-up at its Lucky Friday mine in Idaho, which was shuttered for about a year. Aurizon Mines (AZK) shareholders vote in favor of the acquisition by HL, which should be completed during Q2 upon Canadian regulatory approval. Shares -2.1% premarket. [View news story]
I've been in HEcla for about three years. First bought in around $2.40 or so and it's been a interesting ride.

I've been putting off added to my Hecla position for some time waiting for a bottom and Silver to start back up in price. With this lowball earnings and the usual sell-off by the impatient investors I expect Hecla to droop again. If it goes down to under 3 bucks I'm definitely buying more.....

  • Ammunition Shortage: Buy Olin, Alliant, Or Neither? [View article]
The ammo dealers (WalMart, gunshops, Meijers, etc.) around here have been doing a lousy job of keeping their shelves stocked with handgun ammo for awhile. Now they are empty. I've been buying mailorder lately and am going to invest in a complete reloading system as soon as possible. Some of us like to buy in larger quantities because it is cheaper, not because we plan to use it up all at once. Don't the powers that be have any sense? If I can't do that do to restrictions and paperwork then reloading comes into play.

  • The California State Teachers Retirement System says it will sell all its shares in gun sellers such as Smith & Wesson (SWHC), Freedom Group, and Sturm Ruger (RGR). In an unanimous vote, a committee for the teachers fund approved a measure to divest the $12M in gun stock investments. [View news story]
Gee, I thought teachers were supposed to be smart! I suppose they would have us depend on the Chinese to supply our military, police, hunters and just plain good folks with their firearms. Another good old American industry to destroy. Not well thought out plan, is it?

  • Assessing The Impact Of Future Gun Control Laws [View article]
I pretty much figured things just as Chris put them and may be a buyer again. I currently am holding SWHC as I am certain things will get better sooner or later. We may add another pistol to our collection and it will most likely be a Colt or S&W (again).

  • A Bullish Case For Smith & Wesson [View article]
Obama is not, or at least hasn't shown to be, against firearm ownership (sorry NRA, of which I am a member, but the truth is what it is), and in fact CCW permits are up everywhere. My wife and I got ours, our neighbor got one, our long gone from home sons did as well, and it seems everyone around town is or plans to get theirs. It isn't Obama, it's the dangerous world we live in.
Additionally, more people seem to be getting into the sport of shooting, as in cowboy, target and hunting. When we go to the range we see lots of young folk. We take our grandkids shooting as well, starting at a young age. One of my grandaughters loves shooting an AR-15 and started about age 9.
And of course there are collectors and perhaps that phase is growing too.
Nope, can't blame politics. That may have some bearing, but not much IMHO.
