  • This Big Bad Hedge Fund Can't Blow This Data Fortress REIT Down [View article]
Sarte, this is probably a dumb question, but how would you ever know if your shares are loaned? I don't recall ever seeing any footnote or other indication on a periodic statement that would indicate "your shares in XZY have been loaned out and sold short".

D_V, In a word...no. Society has lost its way and I doubt this ends without a lot of tears.

D_V, I won't argue the point of "all the prices are too damn high" as I too, believe that is correct, however, I also believe that the problem is exacerbated by Health Insurance which masks the cost of the product to the consumer.

D_Virginia, I believe it is more a function of Health Insurance rather than capitalism. I have a friend/co-worker who is prescribed Enbrel for her RA. The drug works miracles for her. Her prescription co-pay is $50.00/month. There is where the problem is...she could care less that its "price" is +$2000/month, to her the "price" is 50 bucks.

  • Railroads: 2 To Buy, 2 To Sell, 1 To Hold [View article]
Michael Blair, I agree with you that CNI is best in class. They are the only railroad that has terminals on the Atlantic Coast, Pacific Coast, and Gulf Coast. Probably the best run railroad in North America.

    Disc: Long CNI

Well Brad, you convinced me. Took a 1000 share position in LXP at $12.22/share. Sold STAG for approximate 8% gain and put about 80% of proceeds into LXP.
Disc: Long CSG, DLR, HTA, LXP, OHI, and WPC

Michael, you should not need to ask for an extension due to holding REITs in a portfolio. Taxes are filed just as you would for any other normal common stock holding. No special treatment or extra hoops to jump thru. At least that has been my experience (however, all my holdings are in a IRA/401(k) account.)

Michael, as I understand the tax law, there is no penalty for asking and getting an extension (first extension request is for 4 months so taxes would be due on August 15 vice April 15.) However, what you may be speaking of is, if you owe any tax, it is due April 15 even though you received an extension until August 15, so in that case, interest and penalties, in any, accrue from April 15.

  • Statoil: Shares To Remain Weak Short Term, May Interest Long-Term Buyers [View article]
Looks like mine hit Friday after the close of business. Hard to say as the account it was in was xferred to a different account on Friday and on Saturday there was a little over $1000.00 cash in the old account that wasn't there the day before.

JohnBinTn, I too had 2 comments, both months old reported as "offensive" to SA and I received a warning about them. Now one had the word "b#####d" in it where assumedly I questioned Warren Buffet's parental lineage. Mild profanity, but profanity nonetheless, so ok, I see that one. The other was a reply agreeing with something that James Carlini had written that in no way, shape, or form could have been construed as profane or offensive, but was deleted as well.

Not only throw it under the bus, but back over it a few times and laugh in our collective faces while doing it. Reality is a harsh mistress....
