Ethanol vs. Natural Gas or Coal: Comparison Not Even Close [View article]
Flexfuel vehicles exist today with injected engines. I know because I own one.
Would I ever use 85% ethanol? Of course not. It would cause my car to get seriously less fuel mileage.
Ethanol is a joke!! With even a 10% blend in gasoline, expect on losing a minimum of 2 MPG in a car which originally gets 25 MPG on straight gasoline. Ethanol doesn't even pay for itself no matter how you look at it because of it's lower energy content per gallon.

Powerless?...I believe the term is "clueless".
It's like they are playing a Monopoly game: "Aw shucks, that didn't work, let's try sumpin' else".

Gold ETFs - Big Surprise at Tax Time [View article]
I sold my American Eagles when they were worth $400 a few years back. I did my tax thing and calculated the tax at 25%. I sent in my check to the Internal Revenue/ After a few months, I got a check from them and a note that the tax rate was 15%. Man was I surprised!
I have some pre-65 silver coins which I will be cashing in soon. I am going to use the 15% rate/ I understand that this rate could go upward in 2011, so I will definitely sell them before then.

As the parents reluctantly agree, they figure "What the heck, it's only money".
They come back broke but admitted they had the time of their lives. The parents rejoice that the money was well spent, since their son is very very happy, even with the gigantic hangover he is dealing with.
Reality then sets in with the parents when they get their credit card bill, higher than anyone can believe with an outrageous interest rate. And knowing full well that they won't get a dime from their son.

It will be too late by 2012...way too late. As a matter of fact, the damage is already baked into the cake....It's irreversible.

To some of the excellent posters here at SA: Have you ever heard of paragraphs?
When I start reading the comments where there are no paragraphs and tons of information, about 1/3 of the way I just give up. It's just too frustrating trying to find where I left off after pondering what the commenter just wrote.
Sounds like a "planned" economy to me.....just like the one halfway 'round the world which is so successful and most of it's citizens are in a drunken stupor sipping vodka all day long trying to forget their misery.

I guess if you want to bring up your kid to be a czar or a mini-czar in the federal government, he/she may have a bright future.
I read the brief version of "The Fourth Turning" which John Mauldin recently referenced and totally disagree with the forecast that the teeny-boppers of today will transform society. Instead, I see a bunch of pampered hyper-conformists with not an original thought in their collective minds.
Listen to their music. It speaks volumes of their despair and their lack of individualism.

I go to numerous car cruises and shows throughout the year, These shows consist of stock and custom cars built from the 30s to the early 70s.
I am always amazed that the average age of the car owners and spectators is in the late fifties to mid sixties. I keep asking my friends what will happen to these cars when their owners die?
I would imagine that these guys are also the ones keeping the Harley name alive. However, many of them desire custom versions of older models which does not add to Harley's sales.
As the early boomers become sickly or die, I would imagine the mystique of the Harley name will fade away.

Celente Flashback: Great Recession Will Maintain Grip for a Generation [View article]
There was a time in my life (well maybe 5 minutes of it) when I believed that Americans were educated enough to foresee the consequences of bad decisions made by government authorities or could see through the hype of certain influential celebrities.
I don't know if it's information overload coupled with busy lifestyles, our poor educational system or that many citizens enjoy fairy tales. But it is frightening that so-called doom and gloom forecasters like Celente are immediately dismissed by so many.
Unfortunately, the day of reckoning, which has been postponed for a year or two will come upon us and affect everyone both rich and poor. And I am sure that the masses will riot and act like barbarians regardless of what little education they have accrued.
And because our collective sense of entitlement has increased exponentially, the scenario of future events is just plain scary.
