  • Gains across all segments for Disney in FQ3 [View news story]
$DIS usually struggles a bit post earnings, and nobody ever says that they want to buy the stock because it is always "fully valued." But it seems to keep trending up anyway.

  • A Few Reasons Why Kroger Is A Solid Long-Term Investment [View article]
I used to go to $CMG 2-3 times a week until I found out that they used dark meat chicken. Now that the copycat places are popping up that use white meat chicken, I don't go to $CMG anymore. I've noticed that same trend with work friends, so I'm a little worried if $CMG can keep up the same growth.

We've been going to Freebirds World Burrito instead these days. Actually like it better.

  • Solid EPS Growth Trends For Las Vegas Sands [View article]
Long $LVS and accumulating on declines. Dividend increases annualy as well.

Best casino company, IMHO. The stock seems to be resting right around here. I usually don't own companies that don't rally with the market, but I do like dividend growth stories that have large corporate revenue bumps coming in the future.

  • Long-Term 3D Systems Investors Should Not Be Fazed By Secondary Offering [View article]
I prefer SYSS over DDD but I'd keep an eye on HP, which is entering the 3D printer market later in 2014.

  • Disney Will Have A Strong Summer Despite Missing One Of Its Top Performers [View article]
I keep adding shares to my portfolio. Buy and hold forever. This is the ultimate "buy what you know" kind of stock.

Where does the family go on vacations? Disney.

What channels do the kids watch? Disney.

What channel does dad watch? ESPN - Disney. (Maybe ABC lol.)

What movies does the family like to watch? Disney.

What do you buy a lot of the birthday and Christmas presents? Disney.

And who just got a Grumpy hoodie from Disney? I did!

It's a huge global company that is a major factor in our lives.

  • The Facebook Face-Plant And How I'm Coping With It [View article]
People made fun of GOOG when they bought Android in 2005. But the key to growth is... growing the business. I think FB is the next GOOG and will be over $1000 per share 10 years from now. Buying the dips. Whether I'm in at $70 or $60 or $45, I think it's going to $1000.

    There. I said it.

  • Is It Time To Sell Facebook And Buy LinkedIn? [View article]
Well, I don't ever look at Linked In, but I do go to Facebook most everyday. I think 10 years from now, FB will be at $1000 per share. It just won't go there in a straight line up. FB is the next Google.

  • Johnson & Johnson: A Dividend 'King' With A Bright Future [View article]
I'm also long $JNJ for many of the reasons you mention. I like their diversity and figure they'll continue to sell all kinds of products to consumers for a very long time.

  • Johnson & Johnson May Add Significantly To The Fortunes Of Shareholders [View article]
I'm long $JNJ because I think the company will be around 50 years from now, and continue to sell a lot of stuff. It's not a sexy stock by any means, but it continues to grow and pay dividends. I don't even look at the charts of these kinds of stocks. I just own 'em and reinvest in them.

A lot of people have gotten rich over the long term by buying, owning, and reinvesting in stocks that are here now and will be here 50 years from now.

Long JNJ, T, UPS, DIS, XOM, MCD

  • Fiscal cliff negotiations between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell hit a major snag after Republicans demand use of the "chained CPI" method for calculating entitlement benefits - which would result in lower payments for Social Security beneficiaries. Pres. Obama backed the provision previously, but Democrats now object to including it as part of a scaled-down deal. Updated 5:51 p.m.: The Senate won't vote tonight and will reconvene at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Reid says. [View news story]
Actually, slowing the growth rate of Social Security benefits is a very practical approach.

  • S&P 500 futures +0.4% don't yet suggest a positive tone to tomorrow's open. Futures continued to fall Friday following the close of stock trading. The gain this evening just brings the S&P back to where it stood at 4PM Friday afternoon. Earlier: Still no deal. [View news story]
I don't really want to pay more in taxes, but if the country does go over the cliff I think it will be an inportant lesson for all of those who think the Bush tax cuts only cut taxes for the rich.

    An important lesson indeed.
