SDRL says Norway's cost level and distance from its core markets make travel and logistics "cumbersome” in managing worldwide operations. New CEO Fredrik Halvorsen has served as interim CEO of oilfield services company Archer since January. [View news story]

  • Dividend Growth Vs. Fixed Income Challenge, Part 4: Floating-Rate Preferred Shares [View article]
I am scared of fixed income after the election, but floating preferred may be a option. I still hold some double tax free munies - something you don't worry about in Texas - but they may have to go next year. Thanks for sharing your research.

Well, I own 1 each of #1 & 2 rating, 3 each of # 3 & 4 ratings, even some of your #10 rating yellow pages, but I have to re evaluate your #5 daylight energy. I may have to put that up for sale.

Have you ever looked at noranda income fund? nndif.pk or nif_un.to? I was in & am now out. I have been for some time. Ita small, but at one time showed a lot of promise. Still just looking at it...

Excellent bit of research. I have been in "canroys" for a long time and find tracking them in the Canadian exchange and pink sheets at the same time helpful. The price may change considerable on the Canadian exchange with no sales to move the pink sheets price. PKI.TO will track PKIUF.PK, SRQ_UN.TO for SOREF.PK, etc. This works on YAHOO and it saves entering a high pink sheet bid when the Canadian price may have changed. Do the money conversion of course. Thanks for your work.

  • Why a Market Correction Isn't Coming [View article]
I think your basically right short term. I have been focusing on Canada and "oil in the ground" in the US. The only way that will lose is a world wide depression. There are still some "black swans" out there. What if the Feds confiscate all the IRA's & 401K's and give you 3% government bonds to replace them? They have floated that trail balloon and 7 countries have done so. Poland, Argentina, Brazil...That dumps all the stocks in those funds on the market. On the other hand, when all the permabears give up and jump in, we will have our blow off.

  • Betting on Natural Gas, Part II: Investing Ideas [View article]
NAT is already becoming the transportation fuel of choice. 18 wheelers serving the port of LA are all natural gas. In southern California, all the UPS trucks, post office, busses, and most municipal vehicles. Here in Atlanta, all the busses and natural gas companies service trucks are. The next step is for all municipal vehicles that return to the same lot to be fueled daily are candidates. Then less than truck load truck lines. 8 or 10 company terminals would cover most of their service areas. Then a new tax based on the miles you drive, not the gas you buy. New gas deposits found in the Rockies, the Bakken, and Louisiana. Change coming.
