  • Verizon (VZ) says it activated 6.8M smartphones in Q3, of which 3.4M were Android phones (many of them were probably Galaxy S III units) and 3.1M were iPhones. This compares with 2.9M Android phones and 2.7M iPhones in Q2. Verizon adds 21% of iPhone activations (~650K) involved LTE devices (i.e. the iPhone 5) - supply issues are said to be responsible.     Apple isn't doing that bad when you consider that the sales people at Verizon try to get people to buy anything but Apple. I've experienced this a couple of times with friends who were purchasing a smart phone from Verizon. They tried to talk my friends out of getting an iPhone.
