  • Geithner's Plan Fits Perfectly with New Mark to Market [View article]
What's the possibility of ETFC seeing some relief from PPIP now that the 9 partnering institutions were selected by the government? Is this a reason why Donald Layton was so recently happy - PPIP being what TARP was originally meant to do, which was to help banks rid themselves of troubled assets on their books.

I was just reading a bit about Citadel and Griffin and stumbled across this article from late last year. Could Citadel be looking at ETFC as a vehicle to go public? I mean, everyone seems to be trying to figure out the strategy, Schwab seems to be smarting over not being able to take etfcs brokerage accounts for a discount, banking trends are certainly changing - the big investment banks are becoming bank holding companies .... I don't know, have a read and tell me what you think. Kinda makes sense to me - there's a sentence in there that says Citadel has a stockpile of like $6billion in cash.

Jason - What's your take on this article

Is this the ETFC gets a chance to "earn their way out...." to profitability? Also, why isn't the brokerage already doing more to support the bank - why move the broker-dealer away from the parent and under the bank .... isn't this already one company or is ETFC a holding company of a broker-dealer and a separate bank?
