  • SodaStream Q4 Results Prove Strength Going Forward [View article]
Didn't SODA forecast <30% growth for 2012 and delivered >50%?
If I remember right, 2011 had similar outcome as well.
Likey hood of 2013 growing significantly more than 2012 seems very high.

    Stephen,

Impressive article. Thank you for sharing your views.

I wonder if you have an opinion on IPGP. I have been holding small position for a long time and wondering if its worth adding to. I just don't understand how much longer can it keep growing wihtout some big competitior coming on its tail.

    Thanks Alan.

SQI is very interesting. If you know Ariba (recently acquired by SAP) it's the same business model. Small company, consistently growing at 15%+ rate and growth rate is accelerating.
It gets benefit of network effect as well as cloud model.
With sharp focus on few verticals (government, health care etc.) and growing vendor network, they are gaining traction in their market.

Highly under-followed and reasonable valuation, specially considering accelerating growth. I really like it!

Alan, I have come across IVI in the past and will look further into it because its on your list.

Btw, I would love to know if you have an opinion on some of the other names I like: IRBT, AVAV, SQI

    Thanks

  • My Top 20 Picks To Start 2013 [View article]
I noticed this is a function of market mood. In a shaky environment, shorts get to drive down even a genuine story and in upbeat environment even sham of business pulls off huge gain.

MAKO is obviously neither extreme but got really carried up due to ISRG like look! Once it was proven wrong, shorts just clobbered it. Unless market goes straight up or MAKO announces really good news, I would think MAKO as a stock will have a hard time coming back fast just because shorts will stay active in this name.

    Just my 2 cents!

    Thanks for your insight Alan.

I am a bit skeptical of Mako long term for multiple reasons. I am learning that successfully copying a hugely successful business model isn't always a given! Mako never had scope of ISRG but investors go carried away.

having said that, I can't disagree on its being severely beaten down right now. Good luck!

    Alan,

I am a bit surprised with Mako on your list. Do you think it will dig out of the hole and start climbing up? Why?

Btw, thanks for sharing your list and wish you happy new year!

  • 13 Hammered Stocks Limping Into 2013 [View article]
    Hi Alan,

Great article as usual. I have some IRBT for a while and thonking of adding more. One thing people miss is that while 2013 top line will be flat, high margin consumer biz will raise bottomline signficiantly. On top of that, they took charges on defense biz related layoffs, which means defense biz will add to bottom line in 2013 (unlike 2012).

I think that downside is priced in while upside is not. I wonder what would be your criteria to actually pull the trigger for your portfolio.

    Thanks

  • Staples Fires Warning Flare To 3D Printing Market [View article]
"On second thought, the move isn't much more than a flare warning the sector and industry as a whole that the model is shifting towards a retail distribution or service bureau model. "

Didn't DDD buy a whole bunch of channel / service companies for the same reason?

Also, I wonder when companies in industrial part distribution like MSC and consumer distribution like Lowes and Home Depot will jump on 3D print service.

  • What Green Mountain Roasters Earnings Results Mean For SodaStream [View article]
    Thanks Josh.
What you pointed out is one BIG difference between SODA and GMCR.

In addition, SODA didn't need a patent to protect, didn't need crazy acquisition spree like GMCR did.

It's just a matter of time before big funds start buyin into this gem.

  • Here's Why Pandora Will Reach $56 Per Share [View article]
    Crunching,

Where did you get this from?

"my understanding is that the royalty rate P pays is currently one half the statutory rate. They were granted a discount because of their "start-up" status. What happens if the rate doubles?"

Where can one find what you call "statutory" rate?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey mikeg0513,

I always thought Pandora's ads are more pleasant, attention grabbing and much better than typical annoying ads on radio. However, I never heard any opinion like yours from the advertisers point of view. Could you elaborate a little bit more on your point.

    Thanks
