  • Kinder Morgan scrapping MLP structure in $44B deal [View news story]
I have happily been long KMR for about two years. Was just thinking about buying more but will just enjoy the ride now.

  • 5 Stocks I Have Added To My Dividend Growth Portfolio In 2014 [View article]
I am a firm believer in the long term prospects of AFL (I recently bought more), LMT, and DE. But I, like you, feel like I have missed the boat on MO's real growth.

I have been waiting for a pullback to add to LMT.

Great list and best of luck with your recent switch to DGI!

  • The 5 Most Overvalued Dow Stocks [View article]
NKE, PG, DIS, KO, and V are overvalued for a reason. They are five of the best businesses on planet Earth.

I still expect NKE, V, and DIS to outperform the next 3-5 years.

Good article though, every company mentioned should be on your watchlist and bought at any downturn.

  • Video appears to confirm Apple-Beats; Iovine reportedly set to join Apple [View news story]
It is not about the headphones, near as much as it is about the streaming service.

BEATS has already negotiated terms with the record industry. Apple has not. 3.2b is nothing to avoid the legal proceedings that kept iTunes radio from market for an extra two or three quarters.

Every quarter they spend negotiating is another quarter for Spotify's head start.

  • Apple may make largest acquisition with $3.2B Beats deal [View news story]
I think EVERYONE is looking at this the wrong way.

Beats has already negotiated the terms for a streaming service (like Spotify.) This is a space Apple is dying to get into. They think the terms Beats was able to negotiate with the recording industry were far better than they would have been able to negotiate with the entire world knowing of their $150b cash surplus and their overwhelming saturation.

Apple might like the brand, but I promise it is not worth $3b to them. What is worth $3b to them is the idea of taking over a streaming service without the headache of the legal proceedings.

  • Twitter's full-year revenue outlook disappoints [View news story]
    Archman Investor,

Thank you for the quantitative, and well researched, analysis of the most innovative and popular news medium on the planet.

With all that money, you should have an easy time initiating a very large short position. Best of luck.

  • Why Most Dividend Investors Never Succeed [View article]
I think a very serious portion of the DGI equation is time.

If you are 63, and have saved a million dollars for retirement, trying to garner enough dividend income from your savings at this point in blue chip companies is asking a lot.

If you start at 25, 28, 30, and are able to save 500-1000 dollars a month for the entirety of your productive, working life, the results are astounding.

So no, buying 1,000,000 dollars worth of KO, JNJ, and PG today is not going to set you off on the retirement you had dreamed of, but incremental purchases, through the good times and the bad, and a lot of time, and the results can be miraculous.

  • The Triple Margin Of Safety Approach To Dividend Investing [View article]
Being a mid 20s dividend income investor I always stay fully invested and reinvest all dividends.

I contribute weekly, and once that cash is equivalent to a half position I go shopping.

Being early in the accumulation phase if something catastrophic like the 2008-09 recession I will just have to live off of ramen noodles and miller high life for a while and increase my weekly contributions.

Having 1/3rd of my portfolio in cash just seems like dead money waiting for a major correction that could be five to ten years in the future.

I realize it could just as easily be tomorrow but you've pointed out in the past Tim that you could miss out on some serious gains having that substantial sum on the sidelines.

I also realize this article is probably more geared toward an investor closer to retirement than I though, this just would not work for me.

I am a longtime reader and appreciate your other blog as well.

Keep the great articles coming and Go Cards.

  • Starbucks Deserves Valuation Premium [View article]
I have been waiting for a drop in prices similar to what we saw in November 2012 to increase my holding.

It has done nothing but go up. I was hoping the $MDLZ ruling would knock a couple percent off.

Regardless or a correction or not though, I am going to start dollar costing into a larger position.

I couldn't believe in this company any more.

  • Is Chipotle Going To Serve Breakfast? [View article]
Seems to me a no brainer.

Brew coffee, scramble eggs for a breakfast burrito and they're good to go.

The only real capital expenditure would be in the man hours added to the pay roll.

Recently bought some TGT at 63. Won't be afraid to buy more if it submerges below the 60 mark.

A couple years of raising dividends away from me buying it, but it does look like a good deal here.

  • Preparing For Retirement Early: Set A Margin Of Safety For Your Total Return [View article]
I am very early in my accumulation phase as well.

With a 40 year time horizon I like both traditional DGI stalwarts, e. g. PG, KO, etc, but I also like to focus on higher growth companies that I think will be the DGI stalwarts of the future (SBUX, V, etc).

I tend to not concern myself with YOC though. DGR is the metric I value.

Been watching it for a while and I finally pulled the trigger on a half position.

    Thanks for the good article.
