I see no mention of the GMO initiative which I hope they hit hard since more people are becoming aware of the risks involved.

It's another reason Google says their main competition is Amazon. Search and R&D too.

"A year ago Page told investors he wanted to spend more on "speculative" research and development projects. At the time its R&D budget had just seen a $1 billion growth over the previous year. Since then Google has added nearly another $2 billion. Over the first nine months of 2014 has pumped $7 billion dollars into R&D projected, including $2.7 billion in the last quarter alone. Obviously, not all of that money is being funneled into Google X, but it's clear that the experimental arm is adding quite a bit to the company's expenditures."

BTW I probably won't even be around much next week. We are pointing the AMZN Bimmer (the one with the top down) for the mountain chalet for peak leaves season. So the choice will be taking in the spectacular sights while sipping on blueberry pomegranate martinis or this nonsense.

    Guess what?

I am saying programming is sold by the owners to the providers (cable, satellite) in packages and that is not going to change.

"Netflix should hope dearly that cable and satellite stay as relevant as possible for as long as possible, when they substantially slide a new paradigm shift will threaten Netflix."

That makes no sense to me at all. They are direct competitors for subscribers.

"I would venture that HBO will be able to gain as many global subscribers as Netflix within a 5-year period and they will be able to generate substantially more revenue, possibly 3xs Netflix's"

Well hold on here, let's not get carried away! lol

My point was HBO streaming is a tide that will lift all boats. How many people have you seen around here say they have only minimal cable contract so they can get HBO? (see post above yours) I think we may be getting to a point where people say, ok, between Netflix, HBO and a few other outlets I don't need cable anymore and all the streamers will benefit.

And forget a la carte. Programming is sold in packages - you want Discovery Channel? - you also need to take our shopping, religion channel, etc.

How dare you look beyond the numbers? Don't you know there is price divided by earnings and pretty much nothing else matters?

By the way your bio gives no indication you are among the smart money but you are obviously smart. Buy and hold great companies like Amazon and the money will come.

Hitch you wagon to Icahn and do what he does. Right, wrong and luck does not much matter when you know what the scoundrels are doing.
