  • Molycorp: Is Another 'Dilutive Event' Imminent? [View article]
You write rapid reduction in rare earth prices but what I recently see is that prices are firming due to the cut in production in China as stated a couple of weeks ago. Given this environment of less exports from China could it be that cash flow projections from the Q3 conference call could be behind the curve ? Secondly to postpone Phase II means not only prudent management but also less cash needed for investment for first half of 2013. Once the market understands that there is a different management team who is more interested in returns than completing a project the shares could recoup some of the discount which is certainly there due to poor investor relation 's policy with regard to SEC investigation (no mention in quarterly conf call) and a former management team more busy with ramping up production without looking at the fundamentals.

The press release also mentioned that cost control was one of the main priorities going forward under the guidance of the current ceo who is well regarded in the industry. Are the projections you use for your article on cash flow including these lower operating costs ? and hence would they still need to raise equity or can they use existing credit facilities and or sale/lease back financing.

  • Wells Fargo Earnings: A Case Study On The Institutional Dynamics Of Wall Street [View article]
The market always tends to focus on one item in a an earnings release which is for a bank even more stupid as they are complex animals to understand let alone forecast. Given the current low rates and the huge inflow of deposits WFC had there was some more pressure on the margin. I do not worry about this at all as the yield curve is already steepening since November and the banks will eventually profit from that. If the market trends higher next week so will WFC and nobody will talk about the margin. Sometimes its better to turn of the screens and pay not attention to all the noise. News is what I want not noise.

No not a maniac just trying to get to grips with this animal called MCP which has been all over the place. Been in and out many times due to the fact that a buy and hold strategy just does not work. With a cut in quota by the Chinese for the first quarter of 2013 and a world economy which seems improving lets see what happens to pricing, awaiting your input on this platform, before I will get back in. If they keep the current CEO and the SEC investigation is nothing too serious I could be tempted to re enter.

I do not think the CEO went out on the SEC investigation, the real reason was in the press release this week, planning and investing in Phase II with no consideration for cash flow at current rare earth prices coupled with an expensive acquisition (Neo) meant that there was only one solution. The current CEO should remain in place as he is very well regarded in the rare earth metal industry. If someone knew in advance of the CEO change most of them traded on the basis of wrong information if my thesis is the correct one. Still I agree with you the current markets are driven by sentiment even is its not the right one....hence you can make a bundle if you stick to the fundamentals, which is with Molycorp diffiuclt giving the short interest and the family supporting that (CNBC's Cramer) and the high beta of the stock.

But the market does not pay attention to the fact that the change of the CEO was as a result of another delay, which I personally do understand as its quite a huge task to re open a mine and build the refinery business, MCP is like riding a wild horse !!

Not coming around. Shares rose another 12% to the 11,50 region which was the second time in a short time frame so time to take profits waiting for an attractive entry point as its now clear why the previous CEO had to leave.

Agree with your comment on the coke use, whatever analysis one tries to make management surprises once again with a complete different way of interpreting the latest developments. the only hope one can have that the current ceo stays in his current role as he seems to be one of the best in the rare earth space.

You are an analyst with the usual comments about how correct they are, I did not even bother to check the other points as you made only one long call and one short the rest was the usual sitting on the fence comments without a strong opinion as I have seen so many times with analysts.

Nov 30 was a wrong call as the share continued to rally strongly. Your Dec 21 comment is a market comment as the market tanked on fear of fiscal cliff and with MCP having a very high beta its not a surprise I wrote that the stock went down a bit more. Lets close the discussion and move on
