MCP changed your opinion once again ? You were a buyer of the stock and than commented recently that the 10 dollar would not hold as the market was selling off on the fiscal cliff issue, which was not really a value added comment giving the beta of the stock. Now you turn due to a bloomberg article stating that the company could be a take over target. Not really consistent is it ?

  • 5 Names With Decreasing Analyst Expectations [View article]
On MCP if one tracks the rare earth prices where MCP is exposed to its not a surprise that earnings estimates are down and yes it had its effect on the share price coupled with a not so nice SEC investigation and a CNBC commentator who consistently puts out negative noise to help out his hedge fund friends, but what really matters is what you expect going forward as that is what the markets discounts. Is he global economy strengthening ? are strategists recommending cyclical stocks ? that will drive the share price not an analyst who is late doing is home work and looking at current prices of rear earth's. By the way how many are covering MCP ?

As the beta of MCP is at en elevated level to put it mildly its not a surprise that the shares will not hold the $10 level.

  • Molycorp (MCP +0.8%) is initiated with a Neutral rating at Goldman Sachs, which says its positive view on growing leverage to higher-value, downstream products and potential share gains in China is balanced by management uncertainty and execution risk ahead of a big capacity ramp in 2013. [View news story]
Its a classic sitting on the fence opinion, we do not dare to upgrade despite the improving fundamentals as we are unsure about the outcome of the SEC or the recent management changes. Analyst are being paid to have a view and a hold and or a neutral recommendation is useless its either a buy or a sell. Especially with MCP which share price is all over the place.. neutral do not make me laugh..

  • Stock Returns Lower For Manufacturing Companies Following Weak November Reports [View article]
MCP where is the value added in your comment you are stating the facts which are well known by the invesment communtity, Pricing was actually firming at the end of the third quarter and volumes were also up as destocking came to an end. The management turnover you speak about is a big positive as most analyst wrote after the event. The only negative which remains is the SEC investigation but even JP Morgan is under a SEC investigation and its stock did not drop 55% as a result.
The shares have recovered strongly partly due to insiders, including the legal council of the firm, buying stock and also due to thechnical reasons as it was heavily oversold (evidence of that was a 62% short interest at one moment in time).

  • These CEOs Just Made Some Very Bullish Insider Purchases [View article]
MCP states that the resignation of the CEO has nothing to do with the SEC investigation....Do you believe that ? MCP investor relations policy has been poor to say the least, the SEC investigation was not in the Q3 press release and not mentioned in the conf call following the earnings release. Those who fear the outcome of the SEC investigation will sell those who do not and look at the fundamentals only will sit tight,

Matthew, this is what you wrote in your last piece on MCP :

The last conference on the schedule takes place on December 6, 2012 and after that time it may be a good time for bearish investors to return to their positions in the company as tax loss selling picks up.

Up another 15% plus since you wrote the arcticle, do we still wait for the outcome of the SEC investigation or is it already discounted in the price

  • Molycorp (MCP +15.7%) soars, taking the rest of the rare earth sector with it (AVL +6.2%, REE +11%, REMX +1.7%). Traders describe the move as the continuation of a short squeeze in Molycorp - whose shares dropped below 6 in mid-November after being in the mid-30s 7 months earlier. Adding fuel is a report Interactive Brokers has said there is insufficient stock available for short sales. [View news story]
Just wondering when CNBC's Cramer comes up with another negative comment on MCP to help out his hedge fund friends who are short the stock,

MCP where is the value added in your piece, are rear earth prices strengthening, are clients re-stockimg, has the chief legal officer of MCP bought shares after the SEC investigation notice, or is tax loss selling the only value added argument you can post in your article ? Are investors really that dumb ?

  • Insiders Are Buying Molycorp, Should You Too? [View article]
At the last conf call MCP confirmed that clients were ordering after running down inventories and that pricing was firming partly due to Chinese taking out capacity be it for enviromental reasons or, reality, loss making operations. To wait for the outcome of the SEC investigation with the chief attorney buying stock, is like sitting on fence. You need to have a view if you want to make money in the markets...and that is why the shares regained 40% from their lows. A lot of remains due to the fundamentals and the 30% short interest, always wondered who tipped the SEC... Was it cnbc ' s Cramer ?
