SiRF: The Way to Surf the Google Phone Wave [View article]
Not what I've read. Qualcomm's chip may have appeared in an early run (maybe...) but all the news I'm reading says Google is going with Sirf star III when they launch their Android platform and the G 1.5.
Not that Qualcomm is a bad investment, necessarily, they're really good at stuffing a lot of crap onto a chip for cheap money - but they're GPS performance benchmarks are, for lack of a better term, somewhat "lacking." Qualcomm is pushing these "one chip does it all" solutions whereas sirf is focused just on good and accurate GPS reception. Sirf's chips have both better sensitivity and better altorothms, and if they work jointly to incporporate the technology into Android, you'll see phones that can pinpoint your location to within 10 meters in just a few seconds.

You guys are both wrong. The G1.5 andndroid has SiRF Star III GPS. It's been in a lot of the trades and on the GPS enthusiast sites. It's even on T-Mobile's site. If you're a serious GPS geek, you'd ONLY take GPS phones with Sirf chips, seriously.
