  • Cornerstone Progressive Return Fund Rights Offering Is A Fool's Game [View article]
Here is the answer to anyone's question as to whether cornerstone funds can legitimately pay the huge dividends they do each month: Look at the top ten holdings of each "fund". It is mathematically and statistically impossible. PERIOD. Getting in and out of each for small gains before and after the ex-date is fine if that is your game. However, believing long term you are actually getting a 18%+ return is preposterous. The funds are only paying investors their own money back. It says so in the prospectus. The company is not misleading anyone.

Respectfully: please advise as to when exactly the economy is "going into recession". I'd love to have that kind of inside information. Devoid of this information, your strategy appears to be a lot like "market timing" which has been proven to be a loser's game.

In other words, virtually no one foresaw the "great recession", the worst since WW2, with any degree of certainty. A friend sold all his equity holdings after Obama's reelection, certain the fragile economy could not withstand the enactment of Obamacare and other new regulatory measures. He missed out on 30%

  • Lorillard's 2014 Dividend Increase [View article]
Long MO, VGR and LO. These products will ALWAYS be here, the potential lawsuits notwithstanding.

I do think it is ironic, however, ALCOHOL is by far a most damaging substance in society. Much more so than Cigarettes. Fact: Alcohol accounts for fully 70% of our medical costs in this country directly and INDIRECTLY. Drunk driving accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, related cancers, gang violence, spousal abuse, bar and athletic event fights and depression. It is also a gateway drug for harder substances. I am no teetoler, yet it is hilarious how the FDA and greedy lawyers want to "defend us" from big tobacco when there is a giant pink elephant in the room.
In fact, the focus on any menthol case will be how big tobacco "target" African-Americans with menthol cigarettes. Unfortunately, the real cancer within the lower class/inner city AA community is alcohol and its destructive tentacles.
Just a thought. LOVE my dividend paying MO LO and VGR.
oh, and by the way.....People smoke because they want to. Not because of movies, ads, glamour or any other reason. And everyone KNOWS it is addictive and carcinogenic. Thanks FDA, but we don't need any more warnings about smoking while pregnant; that it causes cancer; or that it may cause heart problems. Does anyone really not know this? it's like putting instructions on a shampoo bottle.

    Be Here Now,

I turned to my wife when reading one of your posts and said, "I'll bet this guy is from either California, Washington or Oregon. I was right! (combination of your MJ views and you having been a software engineer. Lucky guess I suppose) Enough of this irrelevant debate. On to stock talk! No offense to you intended whatsoever. You may, however, find Dividends1's link above interesting. Peace be with you.

Be Here Now. Why are there so many people in 12 step programs and rehab for "weed" "pot". Is alcohol addictive? Heroin? Valium? Speed? Nicotine? I'm sure you will answer yes. So MJ is the only mind-altering substance NOT addictive. Yes?

Yes, Mitrado, I agree. MJ is no more harmful than alcohol. Absolutely. Alcohol is addictive. MJ is addictive. I'm not saying it should not be de-criminalized. I believe it should. I'm pointing out that we must understand the implications. Alcohol and its abuse have a huge effect/drain on EVERTHING. Check the statistics. MJ is no different. My only point is saying MJ is somehow the only mind-altering drug NOT addictive makes no sense.

    Be Here Now:

I believe MJ's criminalization is a huge mistake. Absolutely. We agree on this point

I did NOT say MJ was not addictive. I said it is or can be just like any other mind altering substance. To make a statement as face: "marijuana is not addictive" is not only false but preposterous. My point is, ANY MIND ALTERING SUBSTANCE IS OR CAN BE ADDICTIVE. Obama's statement comparing it to cigarettes is irresponsible. Driving, working, operating heavy machinery, supervising children and many other activities are indeed NOT advisable while high on MJ. Smoking cigarettes, while unhealthy, can be done without imparing one's decision making and motor skills.

Ok. NO ONE ever....EVER...wrecked their car and killed someone else smoking cigarettes. High on Pot? Every day. Ask any police officer if he or she thinks MJ is comparable to cigarettes.

Understand, I am unquivically against regulation of any of the aforementioned "vices". Nor do I begrudge anyone who chooses to partake. I am simply stating as fact, MJ is addictive and can ruin lives just as alcohol and cocaine can.

Tell you what, people who commented above. Call any reputable rehab facility in your metro area and ask if anyone is there for MJ.

Mitrado......any mind altering substance is addictive. Period. Ask the many thousands of families torn apart by addiction. Responding any more to your comments above is a waste of time. So......Alcohol is addictive. Nicotine is addictive. Cocaine is addictive. Heroin is addictive. Valium is addictive. MJ is not. Right. Think about it.

Ok. Tell that to the 15 people I know who have gone to treatment/rehab for their pot addiction. Physically? like a heroin withdrawal? no. But these people could NOT live without it from the moment they would awaken to the last thing they did before they went to sleep. So, you see, you are wrong Be Here Now. I'm guessing you smoke MJ, which is fine. Just please don't proselytize about it. I suppose cocaine is not addictive either. Yes?

Notwithstanding the ignorant views on the subject of our President, Pot is actually A. Addictive. B. Just as harmful to the lungs as cigarettes. C. The cause of violence and illegal trafficking. D. A serious drain overall on our healthcare system.

MO is a dividend aristocrat, well managed and entering the e-cigarette biz which is not a fad. Rather, a more efficient, less offensive way for the body to ingest nicotine.
