  • Spending In Retirement: From Nest Egg To Income [View article]
RAS, you beat me to the def'n. Heinlein also brought TANSTAAFL into use in The Moon is a harsh mistress". I grew up as a geek and never thought either were hippie terms.

  • Nothing But Net Lease REITs: March Madness Has Arrived [View article]
    Brad,

I had 3 of the 4 Final Four, lacking only NNN. I gotta go with WPC over O because how well they spread the offense (i.e. globally). On a professional level, Donnie Nelson has been finding the hidden gems of global players even before Dirk joined the Mavs.

  • There Are Few Bargains In Tax-Free Income... Here's 3 [View article]
    LB,

Certainly enjoy the clarity of your writing. This article gave me fresh insight into tax free munis. My only foray into this arena has been MUH, which has done quite well since I acquired it at $14.40.

  • Juice Up Your Annual Retirement Income With Municipal Bonds [View article]
    Kevin,

I like your thought pattern here. 5% of my income is from Blackrock's MUH. I bought in the mid $13s during the muni-crisis. It's up around $15.40, which is sweet. The yield is still over 6% and my YOC is over 7%.

  • Bank Of America: Are You Ready For The Next Move To The Upside? [View article]
RS, I went long BAC back in July, 2012 time frame at $7.90 based on an article of yours. Also have made some profits with leaps, currently hold some Jan-2016 $17 calls. It's been slow and steady, but I see good things in store for those who wait.

    All the best,

That is almost always true for a C corp; but I think back three years ago to my Century Link/Qwest income, they said that 50% of the divvy was ROC for the year.

  • My Portfolio Strategy - The Core Is Built, Scaling Is Next [View article]
    GI,

Just want you to be aware of the cost of ACA as you age. I am involved in medical insurance selection for 2015. There are bronze, silver and gold rates. For a 30 year old man the silver monthly rate $349 and $359 for gold. For me at age 57 the silver monthly rate is $718 and gold is $739 per person. Assuming you or I make more the threshold to receive subsidies, these premiums will go up every year. I believe I will have to look at the bronze option.

  • Solving The Mystery Of 10 By 10 - How Does A Dividend Growth Investor Get From Point A To Point B? [View article]
Dave, thanks for the explanation. I guess for people who are adding new money other than dividends every year, the 10x10 goal is a moving target. A 10 yr future 10% YOC goal can be targeted based on today's portfolio value plus new money. I have only five years of hard data, but should make for in interesting chart.

A thoughtful article. RKT's EPS growth rate is not boring to me. Now is the time to box this one up.

  • The Best Way To Reinvest Your Dividends [View article]
PTI, just took the better part of the day to read your interesting article and wide ranging comment stream. Somewhere above was a two comment discussion about the impact of accrued interest on held dividends, which kinda got marginalized. My ponderings are:
    1) how many purchase events were there over the course of the backtest?
    2) to the best of my recollection with the nominal interest rate for a passbook savings account being around 5% through the early '00s, there would be a significant incremental amount of money to reinvested at each purchase event.

  • AT&T Is Up 2.6% On New Tax Management Possibilities [View article]
An interesting end game here is that all the telecom carriers would become true cloud based service providers, with proprietary service software being their IP. The newly hatched telecom network REITs would eventually consolidate down to lower costs.

  • A Diversification Dissertation For Income Investors [View article]
Adam, good common sense here. I allocate based on percentage of income. Usually I top off when the contribution reaches 6%. I currently have seven stocks here and have diversified into 25 others, the newest being 100 shares of WMB which I am now dripping. Through increasing dividends and continued investments the income stream is growing at 6+% annually This is nice since we are living off this income.
