I missed your point. Are you saying they are now tracking with all retail sales?

No trick question. Just commiserating on one of the biggest and most annoying issues when developing and running on MS.

So you are tired of the BSOD?

When I retire I might go off the grid just to see what it is like to be removed from the internet for a while and see if I survive. And I want to spend months just travelling. Europe and Asia primarily.

Luxury brands are global not just transitory in one country or another. Apple is not a luxury brand and for that matter no tech company has a luxury brand.

Luxury and technology are not two words that people associate with each other.

This softness in US ecommerce is interesting. What's up with that?

Don't bet the company on a price war. The real issue is that device prices will fall regardless.

Here is what I cannot square. If Apple is a luxury brand then their market share right now is too large. And certainly cannot grow larger. Apple is trying to be both.

Not everyone hanging out at Starbucks can be wearing Gucci or it is not longer a luxury brand.

So you would not buy life insurance right?

Also consider that there is a certain class of people that need this approach. It is not mass market.

A VP of VMWare. Wow! Are you serious?

Whatever happened to research methodology? Some guy at VMWare looking around in a meeting as representing anything larger is ignorant.

I really don't care about the companies so MSFT bashing does not bother me. Maybe the deserve it. I don't know what they are really doing and I am not sure they know either. However I will say they could be incredibly dangerous if they start pitching enterprise deals and include cell phones as part of the deal for free. CXO's will take the deal as they have a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders to take the best deal. But if past is prologue they will do nothing remarkable with mobile.

I don't own MSFT so you are confused. If you don't have any expertise of your own I appreciate the honesty but how do you come to an informed and complete point of view? And one that is current? And do you care if Apple, Samsung, MSFT, etc look good or bad in your article? If you write with an outcome in mind then you may overreach to try and support a point of view.

Sorry to ruin your hilarity but I really don't have strong opinions about cars except to say there are a lot of great cars being manufactured today so the consumer has more choice than ever.

I believe you already agree with me on MSFT but are distracted by the support statement.

BYOD is not about the financial burden of the device. Many companies pay for the device and the service plan so costs are not remarkably different and could be higher but as a % of IT budgets they are not a big deal. What companies don't want to do is be involved in a shooting war between all the different choices in the market and guess which one will be "the best" when all they have seen is change year over year. IT assets need to last longer than 1 or 2 years before anyone is interested in booking them as an asset and wasting time arguing about them.

I have sat down with CFO's, CEO's and CTO's and this very issue has been discussed. They don't care about the devices and they don't think they are smart enough to figure out what will be on top down the road. They want a stable strategy and BYOD was easily the best strategy barring any security issues. That is causality.

I am going off memory here but my recollection is that his hedge fund was not meant to be the end all unless you were so apocalyptic that you wanted his approach. But rather if 10% of a portfolio's assets were given to him he would manage for the black swan events and if you were hammered on the other 90% he would give you a chance to make it up.

So back to my original point if his strategy was X on a risk basis and he achieved it for his clients which included other funds then that is the definition of success. Comparing his fund to other funds/managers with different goals makes no sense.

He was operating as part of a hedge fund strategy not a long investment mutual fund. Hedge funds have short positions all the time.

Brand premium only goes so far. Everyone would drive a Mercedes if that was all that mattered.
