  • A Rate Cut Won't Save This Economy [View article]
Excellent piece, even if I disagree with it. In principle I agree but I believe the long term Gloom And Doom will not be as severe as portrayed. The Fed did exactly the correct thing. In the long term the Subprime debacle is a speed bump in the road---and hopefully a wakeup call for next gen lenders---but for "secure" investment opportunities the average American must look toward putting money into U.S. corporations. There really are very few foreign investments with the same level of protections and accountability for the small investor. This fact will continue to infuse money into the U.S. corporate coffers with a stabilizing effect regardless of the Fed rate. The next 2 to 3 years will shake out the housing market woes but remember that market is a piece of the puzzle---albeit large and forereaching---but it is not the entire puzzle.

  • Disturbing Trends at Harley-Davidson: Why It's Time to Sell  [View article]
Thanx Grant. This is a reasonable approach and an excellent analysis. Feel free to present commentary on additional companies, I for one would appreciate the info as it is difficult to find an un-opioniated voice today. I'm sure others will not agree with your findings, but historical numbers are difficult to bury. I like HOG and have owned them in the past and will probably own them again. Obviously, the actual stock COST has to be considered to determine the stock's VALUE, and each invester must consider the potential for a given time frame, so what sounds bleak in your analysis may be the gem to another! Thanx again, Dave

  • Ethanol: A Few Myths Debunked [View article]
All very interesting--do you want to be in the frying pan or the fire? Everyone looks at Brazil as the example, but rather than just auto fuel expand your vision to the overall problem of power production. Cars are greenhouse gas contributors but also consider that 80% of electrical generation is coal fired! Now, I'll invite out the saber ratlers with the N word. Challenge your elected officials to develop a plan that will provide more safety and expansion of this country's already successful nuclear power generating capability. The technology exists, the success rate is excellent, but the infrequent failure is catastrophic. And that's what you need your Senator to address. Also support battery technology to provide a decent electric car and maybe we can give our kids a lasting planet.
