  • McDonald's: A Matter Of Taste [View article]
As a Pats fan who doesn't have very high hopes for this season I have to agree that the Cowboys are a better analogy.

MCD earnings growth and the dividend are mediocre. I didn't see them going anywhere so I sold out of my position about 6 months ago. Haven't regretted the decision. I doubt that I'll be buying the stock in the future.

  • Calls to CDC on e-cigs ramp up [View news story]
    You sir, are uninformed.
Nicotine is NOT the thing that is the most dangerous in cigarettes. While in large quantities Nicotine can be poisonous, in the percentages used in e-cigs it is not.
The harm from cigarettes comes from the tars created by the combustion of dried leaves and inhaled into the lungs.
It's really a shame that all of this panic is ensuing around a development that has the potential to help a lot of people. By the time the well meaning do-gooders are done, vaping will be such a PIA that few will bother and instead continue to smoke cigarettes.

  • Dividend Growth Investing: An Introduction To Creating Wealth [View article]
I'm sorry, I'm really not a grammar nazi...
That sentence actually says the opposite of what I assume you mean.
You do not ignore stocks that don't pay a dividend, so "That does not preclude me from INVESTING in stocks that don't pay a dividend" would (I think) say what you mean.
I always enjoy your articles with their "down home" common sense approach. Thanks for your efforts.

    Best Regards

(I'm sorry, it was just making me nuts...)

  • Should Aflac Be Added To My Dividend Growth Accumulation Portfolio? [View article]
I've owned AFL for a bit over a year. I've seen nice price appreciation but the dividend isn't cutting it for me. Barring a 100% dividend increase I'm pretty sure it won't be in my portfolio 6 months from now.

  • Capitalizing On Cannabis: Some Sizzle In The Sector [View article]
Thirty+ years as a cigarette smoker, 4 1/2 years vaping. Haven't had or wanted a cigarette in that time. It may be a gimmick for you but not for "all smokers".
Haven't smoked pot in a long time but if I still did I'd be vaping that too.

  • Linn Energy Is A Major Opportunity [View article]
I have a full position in LNCO and I'm holding for now.
The situation may evolve into an "ENRON" (highly unlikely IMHO) or it may resolve itself like GMCR. I bought GMCR at ~ $26 a few years back when there were all sorts of allegations of accounting irregularities. I rode it to $114 (total dumb luck) and got out just before it crashed again (over allegations).
It seems that there are some very panicky stupid people making decisions with no information.
I don't know if this is an opportunity for me to double down or not yet but reading that Cramer is now down on LNCO encourages me to BUY BUY BUY.

  • Altria (MO) will jump into the e-cigarette business with products to be launched under the MarkTen brand. The capitulation of sorts by Altria to sell the battery-powered devices means that all the major tobacco companies are now in the business. [View news story]
As an ecig user for the past 4 years I couldn't be happier. Ecig users have been viewed much like pot heads: weirdos with those odd devices. Legislatures across the US have been petitioned to ban their use (predominantly by the pharma industry because they have the most to lose). With big tobacco marketing e-cigs legitimacy is not far behind.

  • This REIT Is Approaching Bubble Territory [View article]
Amen brother. Other than DRIP, I won't buy any more at these levels but I have a full position purchased below $40. As long as that monthly divi keeps rolling in I'm on board.

  • 3 Healthcare REITs With Mispriced Risk [View article]
Brad, thanks for your timely, thoughtful and in depth articles.
I too have invested in OHI and MPW after being introduced to them by your articles. The growth has been amazing and has also been making me nervous.
I just slapped an 8% trailing stop on both of them. As long as they keep running I'll happily watch them rise. After reading this, I feel better knowing that I've put a floor under them.
    Best Regards

PS - just opened a 1/2 position in HTA

  • Verizon (VZ) doesn't "currently have any intention to merge with or make an offer for Vodafone (VOD), whether alone or in conjunction with others," the telco announces, addressing an FT report about a possible joint bid with AT&T (T). Verizon does reiterate it "would be a willing purchaser" of Vodafone's 45% stake in Verizon Wireless, but that's pretty well-known. VOD -3.9% AH. VZ -0.8%. T -0.3%[View news story]
