  • DryShips' Balanced Approach Will Help It To Offset Spot Price Volatility [View article]
Starmine Index has a 7.4 bullish rating, Columbine Capital has an "outperform" and Thomas Reuters has a "buy" rating for DRYS. Seems to be counter positions to those expressed by upgrading HOV.

  • Rite Aid's Stock Surged In 2013, But Can It Still Go Higher? [View article]
Well written with good detail. I sold off 50% in Dec taking profits but have confidence enough to own this stock for moderate gains in 2014. IMHO readers should disregard the inane comments about alcohol sales in Calf. Good for RAD, it's a high margin category. Also, RAD's competitor CVS sells alcohol, too. Long RAD.

  • Apple urges shareholders vote against Icahn buyback proposal [View news story]
I don't want a short term gain in stock value as Icahn wants. I'm a long term investor awaiting at least a 25% gain in stock price due to good management and great ideas. No to Icahn. Can't wait to vote no

  • Should Apple Go With Icahn's $150bn Buyback? [View article]
Not sensible to buy back stock with these billions so that Icahn and many of us make money in the short run. Is it so hard to envision AAPL using the cash to buy a company or kick R&D into an even higher gear? Future profits from either option are lasting beyond a quarter or two and the immediate uptick that a buyback would yield.

  • Intel And Apple: An Interesting Tidbit [View article]
This appears to be a terrific article however I wish that it was 3x as long with more elementary composition so that we, the less technological, can better understand the implications of these chips and how it might affect an investment.

  • CVR Partners: Unplanned Plant Shutdown Lowers Production [View article]
You are right about the ex date which should cause a drop of 2.0%-2.5%. Still, I'm not feeling comfortable about the lack of transparency in this company. Even though I'm a small investor and only have 500 shares, I do my diligence and would have taken alternative steps had the company been more forthcoming. Makes me want to seek companies with more open communications

  • Misek hikes Apple price target [View news story]
This guy cuts the price target to $405 and in a mere few weeks now raises it to $450. The current price as of this comment is $455. Think I'll disregard Jefferies analyses in the future.

  • New federal rules will limit the amount of fat, salt, and sugar in school lunches. Vending machines will be limited to 200 calories per item and 12-ounce drinks cannot exceed 60 calories which will cut out many products from soda companies (KO, PEP, DPS). [View news story]
Putting aside the nanny state aspects of govt laws and intrusion, companies like PEP have already figured it out. A new product by PEP is called Pepsi Next which has 60 calories and does not taste like a diet drink. They knew what was coming and did something positive about it. Good management reacts quickly and efficiently. Long both KO and PEP.

  • Seadrill: The Safest 8.95% Yield? [View article]
Starmine. Fidelity has it; don't know about others. Try it. It's one of many evaluative services to consider.

  • Accenture thinks the number of retail health clinics opening up in store settings like drugstores will double by the end of 2015. Though medical professionals warn about fragmented healthcare, the ease of service and lower costs of the care clinics could keep demand high. It's a trend to watch for CVS Caremark (CVS), Walgreen (WAG), Target (TGT), and Wal-Mart (WMT) as the retailers look to take advantage of expanded health insurance coverage in the U.S. [View news story]
Makes sense. Why go to a surgeon for a headache or the flu? Where is Rite Aid (RAD) in this mix? How about Costco (COST)?

  • Seadrill: The Safest 8.95% Yield? [View article]
With virtually all high dividends comes the obvious high risk. Starmine gives it a 3.1 out of 10 because analysts with an accurate projection history think it is bearish to neutral. I appreciate Uncle Pie's comment. Just think it's too risky for me invest in SDRL and expect sustained 9% payouts.

  • McDonald's: Why I Am Hesitant To Buy [View article]
Let's not get greedy folks. This current market growth is finite. Especially now. It will have a fairly big drop soon and isn't it financially productive to hold a company like MCD with a 3% dividend knowing that it's not about to go broke and will rebound irrespective of the economic conditions of the next 1-2 years?
