  • Is Mature Programming The Reason The Howard Stern Show is Not on the iPhone? [View instapost]
It seems so unlikely that "mature programming" is the reason for Howard's absence from the iPhone app that it's not worth mentioning. Instead of blaming Apple or AT&T or Stern, Sirius XM needs to look in the mirror. Once again, it has overpromised and underperformed. The company had plenty of time to get things in order since it started promising the app -- plenty of time to lobby Apple and AT&T and plenty of time to negotiate with Stern. Any way you look at it, the blame lies with the company.

The truth of the matter is that satellite radio has already become a dinosaur. The internet has made it obsolete. Cable and satellite television are heading in the same direction, but they have forces -- including companies that provide both services -- protecting them. And don't fool yourself -- if Sirius XM disappeared tomorrow, Howard Stern could sell his show over the internet and still make lots of money. He doesn't promote Sirius because, for him, it's not necessary.
