A lifelong student of the markets, speculator, and investor, decades of experience have forged Adam into a hardcore contrarian. He believes in buying low when others are afraid, then later selling high when others are brave. He founded the financial-market research company Zeal LLC, and continues to write acclaimed weekly and monthly subscription newsletters.
I am a chemist by trade and an Austrian Economist by study and love discussing the capital markets and take a qualitative approach to global monetary trends and a technical, quantitative approach to trading. My current focus is on emerging markets of Southeast Asia as well as gold and strategic commodities.

Paul Gabrail is an investor who prefers to focus on the realistic aspects of the economy. Paul is never hesitant to offer his oftentimes unique perspective on all matters related to the economy, real estate and personal finance.
He co-founded Select Investment Group, a real estate investment firm that owns and manages 925 rental unit properties and $125 million in assets. He’s also a former partner at MGO, a private wealth management firm with more than $650 million in managed assets.
I cover monetary policy and its effects on the macro environment. I have written about gold, foreign exchange and economics for the last decade, with a particular focus on the actions of the Federal Reserve.
I am the founder of http://Gold.net, a website that provides financial data which can be repriced into any currency including gold. We cover metals, currencies, stocks, financials, futures, and indices.
Amateur aficionado of fundamental security analysis and behavioral psychology. I have a Ph.D. in Engineering and MBA, with corporate executive and P&L experience in North America and Asia. Managed cross-border M&A, private equity deals, strategic alliances and joint ventures. I believe in the disruptive power of innovation, having been part of developing innovative technologies. Fascinated by the global capital markets, but less so by the media pundits who boldly predict and explain all moves in the markets with not a shred of humility. Always on the side of the small investor because no one else is and...that's who I am.
Disclaimer: I would like to remind readers to always do their own due diligence on any investment, and if necessary, consult their own financial adviser. The material in my articles should not be considered or relied upon as a formal investment recommendation but merely as a starting point for further analysis.
In investing, I have a heavy focus on reinsurance companies, and I enjoy learning how to value their investment portfolio and underwriting ability, taking inspiration from the reinsurance companies that Warren Buffett used to help build Berkshire Hathaway's investing empire. The other focused sector that I study is deepwater offshore petroleum drilling.
I am an independent trader. I began actively trading in 2008 and my perspective is shaped by the collapse of 2008 and the incredible rally of 2009. My approach consists of seeking out fundamentally strong stocks that are unloved by the market and then assessing general market conditions to manage risk.
Outside of the markets, I enjoy playing tennis, working out, and pushing myself to conquer my fear of public speaking.
Joseph has been an analyst, investor, and student of economic theory; money and banking; and statistical methods for evaluating and implementing risk/reward trading algorithms since 1972. Joseph is also an occasional contributor to financial publications and his essays are frequently cited by other financial websites and publications.
Since the end of the Great Recession, Joseph came to recognize that traditional methodologies for forecasting economic growth and investment asset pricing are no longer of value, and a broader understanding of the post Glass Steagall, financially engineered world that has driven markets and economies since the turn of the century is required today.
He has a good grasp of Shadow Banking, High Frequency Trading, and Dark Pools, and their impact on today’s markets. He has also spent considerable time understanding the new global paradigm of central bank involvement in experimental policy designed to better control economies.
Joseph doesn’t subscribe to a specific school of theory on economics. Rather, his thinking is based on a combination of the Classical School, the Austrian School, and the Keynesian School. He even sees the writings of Karl Marx as particularly instructive.
Joseph is particularly fond of the following quote from Albert Einstein and sees his own work as driven by that same passionate curiosity that Einstein refers to:
“I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”
Coming in a close second in terms of favorite quotes that express his views, Joseph embraces Lord Acton’s views expressed here:
“The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern.
Every class is unfit to govern."
Alan Brochstein, CFA, was the first investment professional to devote himself to sharing his observations about the cannabis industry from an investor's perspective publicly. He runs 420 Investor, a subscription-based due diligence platform for investors interested in the publicly-traded cannabis stocks and is also the founder of New Cannabis Ventures, a content aggregation site focused on investors and entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry.
Alan has worked in the securities industry since 1986, primarily with the responsibility for managing investments in institutional environments until he founded AB Analytical Services in 2007 in order to provide independent research and consulting to registered investment advisors. In addition to advising several different hedge funds and investment managers, including Friedberg Investment Management, where he participated as a member of its investment management committee, Alan was also a senior analyst for the independent research firm Management CV. In 2008, he began providing a first-of-its-kind subscription-based service for individual investors, Invest By Model, which offered two different portfolios that investors could replicate in their own accounts for $20 per month. Alan also offered The Analytical Trader at Marketfy, where he used fundamental and technical analysis in a disciplined process to offer specific trade ideas geared towards swing traders.
Alan launched www.420Investor.com in late 2013 as the premier source of information for "Green Rush" investors seeking to capitalize on the proliferation of legalized medical and recreational cannabis. In March 2014, Alan, who is a member of the National Cannabis Industry Association, began to focus solely on the cannabis sector. He launched www.NewCannabisVentures.com in late 2015.
You can follow Alan on Facebook (www.facebook.com/420investor) or on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Invest420). Alan also moderates a large LinkedIn group focused on the cannabis industry, Cannabis Investors & Entrepreneurs (https://www.linkedin.com/groups/6523904)
After following the markets for years, I started actively managing my portfolio in 2010. Plenty of misteps and a few victories have brought me to the point of wanting to share my experiences and gather feedback from this community.
I'm still learning the more advanced strategies for options and currently investigating futures trading, I want to bring my perspective to the investing world and hopefully generate some alpha along the way.
I tend to focus on a few names at a time to determine their trading patterns before intitating anything. I've learned that patience is a virtue and to not rush into trades. There are always more opportunities though I still struggle with "the trade that got away" syndrome on my darker days.
I hope anyone reading my articles is able to get some valuable information out my opinions and experience, and maybe a chuckle once in a while.

PortfoliV.com is an investment portal project based on running a set of virtual hedge funds. The aim is to build an investment portal based on actual trades made rather than textual commentaries.14 virtual funds based on a variety of themes are managed by the site owner on strict real-life conditions including real-time bid and ask prices, commissions and margin calls.
Site visitors are able to comment on the trades and follow Fund performances. As the site builds a certain amount of feedback the aim is to aggregate these responses and integrate them into the Fund trading decisions. This way the site aims to transform itself onto what can be called an "OpenSource Virtual HedgeFund" that is transparent, but utilizes all sorts of trading techniques used in common Hedge Funds.
The site owner, and the main trader so far, is an independent trader with 10 years of trading experience. He splits the year evenly between living in the US, Europe and Middle East and therefore can make informed trading decisions on a variety of developments in the world especially forex issues. He has a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Virginia and has passed all three levels of the CFA examinations, with his CFA certification pending approval.
