But the sector disaster has taken its toll on the company. How do you take austerity measures when the economy is in a downturn?
Of course, it is all for political benefit and if anyone really believes one politician, regardles of color, is better than the next, then they belong to a lunatic asylum or Neverland!
Look at the type of leaders we have been getting all over the world!
We are at at fault: We get a Chavez because time and again those "democratically" elected left a rich country penniless. You get an Alan Garcia in Peru who had to flee the country after his first term but then as begged to come back and do the same all over. You get the Krischner clan in Argentina who are worst than the generals.
Now people want someone like Romney! The guy changes his mind on a daily basis. At least Santorum stood for something - what does Romney stand for?
Look at what matters nowadays. Look at the most popular TV shows.
Everything is measured in money - no decency, no respect.
And if anyone still believes we can sit and do proper DD on A Co, they must be nuts.
Smaller ones like MDW and PZG could have more upside if gold goes up.
It is hard to pick as one wonders what these CEOs do exactly! How can they not make decent money with gold prices are at these levels? Or suddenly a star miner like AEM loses a mine and the dive seems to be unreversable. Or EGO goes and buys a mine in Greece!

Do you see VALE as a better buy than RIO or BHP?
What about FCX?
Actually, almost all material stocks are down but that is for good reason as China slowdown is curtailing immediate future growth.
Spain is headed for problems and the way it is being dealt with is to raise taxes, cut deficits and all that nonsense at the time of economic slowdown!!!!!! This will curtail growth and may further lead to uncertainty, the investment killer.
Thses nonsense policies can only work if there are trading partners that are reflating, growing at least for now, to help a country such as Spain to compensate for its doemstic demand thru piggybacking on partners and then hopefully that will trigger..... There aren't that many left and European central bankers are definitely to blame as they increased rates at the first sign of a recovery - they basically killed it.
So other than China, let's hope for a lower rate and more easing in Europe. FED will keep rates down. China will gradually bow to the pressure in spite of being afraid of casuing bubbles. Some "emerging" (I believe they are far more emerged than most European "developed" nations) have been / are reducing rates.
When that happens, all material stocks will rise. So as our capital is finite, we must decide which stock or ETF will provide the best risk/return.
I have made money time and again with UYM, VALE, FCX, BTU - but VALE has problems in Brazil, FCX in Indonesia and Coal stocks are for the truly brave so the upside may be limited or short lived even if what ever we have hoped for comes true.
Anyhow, it seems that near-term movement will be down as per Jobs report. SO regardless of your preference, i would wait a little to see how these stocks react to the recent news.
