Ben Bernanke Pleads for His Job; My Response to Bernanke [View article]
Mr Bernanke should do the honorable thing and step aside. In Japan failed CEOs used to jump to their deaths. That level of atonement is over the top but resignation is a good starting point. A replacement can do no worse than the man who was oblivious to all warning signs and kept denying that danger signals even existed.
Hi Justin, any thoughts on the November $5 calls at 35 cents or the January $5 calls at 65 cents as a low(er) risk strategy of investing in SPPI ? While playing the November calls seems like a gamble(at this time) I am more favorably inclined towards the January calls. If SPPI's problems are temporary and the current price is an overreaction, I am thinking 2-3 months is sufficient time for things to cool down and hopefully for a rebound to take place?

The media not only hides the facts from investors but it also distorts facts or exaggerates things. As an individual investor it is very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to reading and analyzing news. Applying common sense and overcoming irrational fear are key to survival in the jungle known as stock market investing.
SKF: The Rise and Fall of an ETF Superstar [View article]
I traded SKF a couple of times at the beginning of the year. It used to be an ATM back then. I sold at a small profit only to watch in awe as it went up, up and away. I bought it again in April and it immediately dropped 8 points. I averaged down and bailed out at break even. Never touched it ever since because there is no point fighting the Fed.

I am unlucky I discovered your Lucky13 post only today. Great picks - nice upward movement in all of them. Are you going to publish another list next month?
Are GLD and SLV Legitimate Investment Vehicles? [View article]
Are ETFs like GLD and SLV trojan horses sent out to rein in the upward move of gold and silver? Will these go the way of the US dollar eventually(from gold backed currency to paper currency).? It's not like the buyers of these ETFs can demand and receive real gold or silver, so why not just keep trading paper gold and silver?
Unlocking the Money Matrix: Gold Price Suppression [View article]
Owning physical bullion is easier said than done. Buyers have to pay a premium to spot price while buying and sell at a discount when they want to liquidate their holding. Storage and insurance is an additional cost. I personally think that precious metals are of 'real value' and worth owning, but I am seeing that various issues are making it difficult to own them profitably.
David Rosenberg's takeaway from the Meredith rally: "The fact that the equity market could rally this much based on one analyst's commentary is testament to the view of how badly investors want to believe that the recession and credit crunch are behind us and that unbridled prosperity lies ahead." [View news story]
Short sellers were treating Meredith like a rock star when she constantly(and correctly) pointed out weakness in Bank stocks. She has now made a bullish call and and it is somehow wrong?
Geithner's Banking Pump and Dump: Time to Jump? [View article]
Jorge, RF takeover has been talked about since the past 2-3 months but hasn't happened yet. Do you have any credible sources of information about the takeover or is it only a guess?
After Bill Miller's Legg Mason Opportunity Trust (LM) fund returns a stunning 48% in Q2, Larry Swedroe wonders: Is Miller regaining his touch, or getting lucky? [View news story]
If Miller's picks turn out to be bad it is his mistake but if they do well it is luck? His fund beat the S&P for 15 years. His worst year happened to be the one in which a once in a generation kind of crisis erupted. To give credit where it is due, Miller has rebounded nicely from his worst year and done well this year.
Fatal Attraction - Investors and High-Leverage ETFs [View instapost]
Triple ETFs are bad, bad, bad. Even if you are a trader, don't buy any stock that you wouldn't feel comfortable holding in case it went down in price. You can set stops, but MMs manipulate prices to take out stops at various levels.
An elephant has one set of teeth for show off and another set for actually chewing food. Similarly, a politician's stated goals are very different from his real goals. Which companies or sectors will be the benefactors from this bill? Can we buy their shares to profit from this?
