    Chowder,
I love collecting these gems "When you micro manage anything, you get micro results. "...Hope you don't mind my adding this one to the list.

This is very true....and what I have found is that these guys do not last very long but the impact can be devastating to a team.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Great season so far for Arsene Wenger and the boys.....

  • What A Difference A Year Makes [View article]
Inz. What a wonderful article! We are on the same journey. Since the start of Q4 2013, we now have the option to buy individual stocks in our 401k. I have been adding more of the dividend aristocrats, challengers and contenders as the market allows (I love a great bargain). Learning initially from the likes of the great practitioners of Dividend Growth Investing such as Chuck Carnevale, David Crosetti, Eddie Herring, David Van Knapp, Chowder, Norman Tweed and David Fish just to name a few; who continues to support this wonderful community and developing your own strategic approach is the greatest testimony to the help that we receive from them. Keep up the good work.

  • iShares Select Dividend ETF announces quarterly distribution of $0.5496 [View news story]
Could be because several companies paid their Q1-2013 dividend in Q4 20120 to beat the expected tax increase. If you look at the year over year comparison you would see that the there was an increase: 2012 - $2.12/share and 2013 was $2.19/share or 3.3% net increase in dividend rate.

  • Why Do Dividend Growth Investors Like Price Pullbacks So Much? [View article]
    Dave,
Great article! Western union is a great addition. Remittance will continue to grow as the economy picks up. POT is on my watch list and I will be pulling the trigger in a few weeks.

  • My Dividend Retirement Plan [View article]
Thanks Saratogahawk. I actually picked up some RIG at $44/share. The maintenance issues will soon pass and the fleet uptime should get back to normal and this should give them several years of reliable and predictable operation. With the depth that these rigs have to go to extract oil, etc, the rates will continue to creep higher. The possible litigation in Brazil is one headwind that the company faces, but this too will pass. Management’s commitment to shareholders in maintaining its dividend payment and the benefits yet to be realized from the recent acquisition; I can see the stock back at $70+ in another year or so.

DGI's process/ strategy is a sound building block toward a long-term retirement goals. Instead of investing more of my capital, I focus on trying to pay off my mortgage as quickly as possible. I know I am giving some of the power of compounding.....but a paid for house makes a happy wife. :-), and that will still leave us with 20+ years to save accelerate the dividend growth investing process.

    DGI,
Thanks for sharing the insight into your strategy. I like to buy dividends that are on-sale. I usually look for dividend that pays 1.5X times S&P yield, especially after the company was beaten down by the market for some temporary headwinds (example JNJ - recalls, etc). With over 20+ years to go before retirement, I will DRIP; but invest new capital in other opportunities. I take profit of the top at 25% capital gain. My thinking is to get to the point where I own the stocks for free - when I playing with the house' money.
