  • The Coming Rebound In Commodities, Coal, And Coal Stocks [View article]
I agree with you. Alternative energies even at a small % of total electricity production are huge disruptor. a few basis point increase and it create an imbalance in Nat gas and coal markets.
I have not idea how it will play out. The energy market is in total flux.
Could we have a sharp rebound in coal stock, yes! but is that going to be a cycle or a dead cat bounce?

  • Why I Own Gold [View article]
what are you talking about! real estate is far from back. Yes price went up double diggit in place were RE was obliterated. but you cannot compare the country with boom and bust area like Phoenix, Miami and Las Vegas. In these areas overbuilding was obvious. elsewhere it wasnt, and price are still way below pick. You also forgot tp mention demographics. Even though we will have less homeownership the delay in household formation in the last 5 years has been huge. With the stabilisation of thw job market confidence is coming back slowly.
The problem in RE is the same as for GOLD. people stay stuck into their thesis and dont see reality. I dont think RE will rise parabolicaly but that it will follow inflation. That's it

  • Total's Bright Future: Opportunities Abound [View article]
Total free cash flow do not cover the dividend since 2008. the market did not care because it "bought" the oil sand and shale gas acquisition. Total is now pedaling back, writing down the properties of or delaying investments.
    Lower oil prices wont help.
Regarding SPWR, how can TOT be a cheaper way to buy sunpower?
they own 65% or close to $1.8bn vs total market cap of $117bn.
May be at a much lower price.

    Mmm, dream on.
the company do not even cover its dividend and capex with the current cash flow. What's going to happen to the stock when oil prices are lower?
they just started to write off the ill timed high cost properties. more to come.

  • What Is Going On With France Telecom? [View article]
emotion is not a good recipe for investment.
Yes, Hollande is/was bad for business, but most of the damage to FTE has been done. starting in 2015 hordes of retiree wont be replaced, as I wrote earlier, tariff in France are the lowest in europe and have more chance to stabilise (2014) and go up (2015) than other for europeean competitors. It is not that FTE is the best company, but they will look good soon because they suffered the most and earlier.

  • What Is Going On With France Telecom? [View article]
if you look Iliad latest numbers in detail, you will notice the company growth went almost to a halt. Half of the wireless suscribers took the €2/month plan. they are people that cant afford a smartphone or dont use their phone often.
A reminder, in France price have little room to go down now. For €30 you have broadband + TV.
Most of the pain is behind for FT. Regulator are also starting to realized they may have been a little overboard in allowing a 4th player. It has helped the consumer, but fiber optic investment will only spreadout if there is price stability....
    buy FT (I own it)

come on! you never heard of dumb money.
when you see the hordes buying this is time to flee.
And this is true for equities, bonds , gold....

One could even argue that the creation of Gold ETFs had a very positive impact on physical gold.

  • Suntech Reaches The Grave - What Should You Do Now [View article]
STP business is a cookie cutter business. there is almost no IP thus the name of the game is production capacity and productivity. This is a pure commodity business.

LDK should be the next on the red list. $3.5bn debt. at approximately 7% means they need at least $245MM in operating profit!!! the need huge influx if equity to survive. in any case the current shareholders should be wiped-out.

the fact you mentioned "manipulators" put you in the "avoid reading this comment" category.
those who still mention manipulation need to grow up and accept their own mistakes ie bad timing and/or wrong side of the trade.
