  • Boeing (BA) officially resumes deliveries of the 787, the latest step towards putting the lithium-ion battery fiasco in the rearview. The first delivery since January 16 was made to All Nippon Airways Tuesday and the company says it still expects to deliver 60 of the planes this year. Profit margins may be pinched in the interim however, as the planes now making their way to customers are also some of the earlier jets, which cost more to produce and were discounted to lull buyers, Reuters notes. [View news story]
The 787 was start on 3-28-2003 and Boeing stated is would assembley one 787 ever three days, its now 5-14-2013
a class action by the by the stock holders as been filed
Boeing need to sale 1100 787 to break even and that was before the grounding

Boeing started delivery in 2008 of the 787-8 and is pay now paying late fee to airlines and still has not meet rate of 10 months
The airline are sueing boeing over the grounding and the lost profits since 1-16-2013
Many Airlines are NOT replacing their existing fleet of 747-400 with 747-8

Japan Airlines is considering buying 20 Airbus A350 aircraft for approximately JPY400bn ($4.23bn), a development that would reduce its reliance on Boeing.

There appear to be some resentment with the airlines, Boeing and the import and export bank

  • Boeing (BA +0.9%) lifts higher as Sterne Agee ups its price on the shares to $120 from $100. The firm says that with the Dreamliner fiasco largely behind them, its free cash flow could top $18B over the next three years. The stock has typically traded at a 10-12 multiple to free cash flow, so with book-to-bill for the commercial aircraft sector staying above 1 at least through next year it sees the stock moving "towards the peak in the cycle." [View news story]
It is total amazing to see Boeing stock at their current level with all there problems
Boeing is Multinational Corporation that builds 70% of their aircraft in 70 countries and 25 states and assembly the aircraft in Everett and Renton
In 1996 Boeing bought North American Aviation from Rockwell and Hughes defense and Space meager with McDonnell-Douglas to become the world larger aerospace company.
To make up for cost over run in the 1990’s with 777, 737NG, DCAC/MRM, OS/2 software
Boeing sold off its Manufacturing infrastructure to Onex of Canada, Vought-Triumph, that now builds parts and assembly for Boeing, Airbus and other
The Passenger to Freighter mod center was move to China, Boeing sold off the Door product center to France alone with other divisions to other companies.
Its plant in Everett and Renton Washington are only completion center now.
Boeing is selling off property for commercial aircrafts and Defense and space programs in Washington, California, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
Boeing 787 program is a Risk Shaving program with its supplies alone with the Washington state, south Caroline and the Government of Japan that has 35% interest in 787 programs
Washington states and south Caroline states government has given Boeing tax break and millions of tax payer dollars to Boeing that should be a Bond issues for the States and Tax payer can be paid back
Boeing management which is from GE has been selling aircrafts below cost, leaving no profit for the maintained of the infrastructure of the assembly plants
Boeing sold 844 787 before its had the infrastructure to build 787 alone with a proven design and systems that has kept the 787 in the news
Boeing has stated if would build one 787 ever three day , the 787 started on 3-28-2003 its now 5-13-2013 its now Boeing now has class actions laws sue file against then.
Boeing has deliver 50 787 to date, the 787 is five years late in delivery to the Airline and Boeing is pay late fee to the late fee to date .
The Airlines line are now suing Boeing over the lost of renew due to the grounding of their 787
Boeing has sold 111 747-8 aircraft and 46 deliver, the program is two late and 2.04 Billion over budget
(Boeing is 700 million over budget with the KC-46 program)
Boeing did not build the Double Decker 747-500 &600 in 1997 due to a lack of orders
When Airbus annocunment the A380 Boeing and NASA study show only 75-100 A380 would be needed
How many airline would need a 777-X aircraft the can carry 425 passenger 9000 miles?
Airbus only sold 36 A340-500 ultra long rang aircraft

If the 777-X has wing span longer then the existing 747-8 its will be to larger to be assembly in Everett
Boeing need to kept the wing at Code E standards on the ramp and taxiway, up to 65m (213ft 4in), in line with today's 777-300ER,
    without airport and jetway modification.
The South Caroline plant was builds by Vought aircraft and has 480 feet wide assemble bays alone with climber control building, clean room, composite equipment and a train workforce for composite
Boeing has acquired 1100 acres of lands in south Caroline at the times its selling off or canceling the lease on the office building where the 777-X was going to be design alone with Build permits in washingtion state.
40% of Boeing workforce will retired in 5 years and Boeing is still laying off it workforce
Note Boeing has offer the 777-X three other times once in 1997
Boeing say the 777-X will ready in 2019, but Boeing need to be in production now of the 777-X and 737-MAX since Airbus is in production with the A380, A330, A320NEO and A350 since the 777 first when into service in 1995 are coming out and Airline are replace their existing fleet now
Boeing may miss the boat if Boeing waits to offer the 777-X in 2019 , Given the age of the commercial aircrafts fleets which is replace every 20 years

Boeing slowdown in the schedule for the so-called 777X has raised suspicion within the industry that despite a competitive threat from rival Airbus, Boeing's management in Chicago is unwilling to commit the money because of the risk attached to doing several major new jet programs at once. But the CEO did get 27 millions bounces and Ray Conner got 60,000 share of stock

  • All Nippon Airways (ANA), Boeing's (BA) largest 787 customer with 17 Dreamliners, has safely carried out a two-hour test flight of the jet with its modified battery system. However, while Ethiopian Airlines has already flown the plane commercially, ANA intends to conduct at least 230 test flights before allowing customer back on in June. Fellow carrier Japan Airlines plans to carry out its first 787 test flight next month. [View news story]
ANA will conduct about 230 test flights for pilots with the upgraded 787s, said Hiroyuki Ito, a senior executive vice president.
(Get to get the flight crews back up to speed ! ANA has 17 787)

ANA should take a wait and see approach to the battery problems and just watch the other airlines

ANA said additional battery monitoring systems will also be installed on all 787’s to check in-flight performance and all batteries will be removed and inspected at designated intervals.

It took the Boston Airport Fire Department 90 min and 50 Fire Flightier and Fire Trucks to put out the fire and that was on the ground
Boeing is now saying the battery never got fire,! The smoke must have been from all the Hot Air from Chicago!
If there No Fire Damage to the aircrafts then Power UP the aircrafts in
(Boston and in Japan) and taxi test the 787 around the airport!
And start running run the check listed and all the ground checks and return the aircraft to service by flight testing the aircraft over Boeing HQ in Chicago or at the next NASCAR race! or on The 4 of July
Boeing should hire Evergreen 747 Fire Fighting Super Tanker 747 or Dc-10 alone with Air Force retired KC-135E, and Installed In-Flight- Refueling Receptacle in the top of the cockpit cabin of each 787 and the fire department stand pipe plumping to each of two battery location to dump 20,000 gallons of fire retardant to meet the 330 min ETOPs requirement
Since Halon 1301 is inefficient in fighting Lithium-Ion-Battery fires aboard aircrafts
And Flashover normally occurs at 500°C (930°F) or 1,100°F for ordinary combustibles, and an incident heat flux at floor level of 1.8 Btu/ft²*s (20 kW/m²).

    What inside Lithium-Ion-Battery
The energy provided by the cell is equal to the voltage times the charge. Each gram of lithium represents Faraday's constant/6.941 or 13 901 coulombs. For a voltage of 3 V, this gives 41.7 kJ per gram of lithium, or 11.6 kWh per kg.
This is a bit more than the heat of combustion of gasoline, but does not take into account all the other materials that go into a lithium battery and which make lithium batteries many times heavier per unit of energy.

FAA Reaction In October 2010, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Safety Alert for Operators highlighting the fact that the cargo on board Flight 6 contained a large quantity of lithium-ion batteries and that Halon 1301 was inefficient in fighting fires involving them. The FAA issued a restriction on the carrying of lithium batteries in bulk on passenger flights.
(As of 2011, lithium-ion batteries account for 66% of all portable secondary (i.e., rechargeable) battery sales in Japan)
The explosive force in this test was likely high enough to cause physical damage to an aircraft’s Class C cargo compartment.
container specially designed to ship lithium metal batteries would need to demonstrate that it can withstand this explosive condition. There are currently no approved and tested containers that can sufficiently contain the known effects of accidental lithium metal battery ignition. Common metal shipping containers, pails and drums, are not designed to withstand a LITHIUM METAL CELL FIRE.

The forward battery is located under the flight deck in main electrical bay next to all the other LRU's that control the aircrafts in flight , the wiring is NOT fire proof
This is another 787 advancement how the battery can keep the pilot seats, coffee cup holder warn, alone with the cockpit floor warn on an cold morning
The other APU is located is aft electric bay where the APU fuels line is route between the wing and APU in the tail of the aircrafts next to cargo department with all Flammability cargo located at ! And Halon 1301 is inefficient in fighting fires involving lithium-ion batteries.
At what tempter does aircraft Wiring Burn?
    FAR 25 comprise clauses mandating aircraft design safety rules. However, there are no specific clauses within FAR 25 pertaining to the flammability, toxicity or smoke visibility criteria of electrical wire insulation. That said, FAR Section 601 mandates a general statement that;
FAR 25-601: "The airplane may not have design features or details that experience has shown to be hazardous or unreliable. The suitability of each questionable design detail and part must be established by tests."
