EconoMike » Profile

I have degrees in Economics and Law. I have been investing since the late 1980's. I started by investing in mutual funds, but within the past four years I switched to investing in individual stocks. I invest in both US and International equities.

As a value investor my strategy is to overweight sectors which I perceive as being undervalued, and select the most undervalued stocks within those sectors. Positive factors which I consider include whether the stock has low debt levels, currently trades at a low price to book ratio as compared to the historical average, and has a long term record of maintaining a high return on equity. I also look for above average rates of growth in dividends, earnings per share, and book value over the past 10 years.

Past "victories" include overweighting reits, emerging markets, and small cap value stocks beginning in 2000 and then selling out in 2007. I am currently overweight in health care and consumer staples. I have also started the process of rebuilding a position in reits by buying an exchange traded fund on the dips.
