  • The Dream Of The Insulin Pill: Oramed Vs. Rivals [View article]
this is a drug for type I diabetes... a small market. Also, the mechanism is stopping the autoimmune destruction of pancreatic cells. This is not an insulin analogue. As a physician, I can tell you that drugs for autoimmune disease just delay but do not prevent the inevitable. This is not a competitor to oramed

  • Dialed In To France Telecom [View article]
Iliad is making money but they will be forced to build their own network in the future and it will be interesting to see what their balance sheet looks like then.... they can offer cheap pricing while roaming from Orange's network. But if they had to build their own, you might question the sustainabilty of their pricing.

  • France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom Or Vodafone: Which Is Better For Income Investors? [View article]
it is always a little disappointing to see the notification that there are comments on the article and then to log in, hoping to read something insightful or interesting but to end up with some opinionated platitudes don't really make much for objective discussion.

the depth of your analysis astounds me. FTE recently borrowed 750 mill euro at 1.9percent.

i thought you had sold already boib. why do you say it will be under 7 in a year? that would give it a PE of ~5.5 in 2014!?!

    Thanks Labutes.

we are in total agreement that the domestic market is the weakest link. but the damage wrought by Iliad is done and is reflected in eroded earnings over the last few years. This damage is irreparable since low(er) prices are there to stay. But look at the subscriber gains (on long term contract by Orange) and look at the valuation.

The question to ask though is whether this weakness is reflected in the price. I think FTE has been punished thoroughly and the pendulum has swung too far. The other question is whether Iliad will be able to sustain their model as they ramp up their CAPEX to build a network - unlikely according to analyst research I have read.

I look forward to seeing your article.

    Cheers

you might have some more info but according to WSJ, there is unlikely to be a VZ sale deal.

FTE is stealing marketshare from TEF in Spain (TEF home market) and has a significantly better balance sheet. A partial sale of EE and industry consolidation will mean a lot of upside for FTE.

there was a nice article about this with respect to European telcos in this week's Barrons. google it.

As for asset allocation, I would not advise people what to do with their money. I have 25% of my holdings in FTE and I am very comfortable with this (& still beating the indices).

article of interest in WSJ today about how VOD's FCF 'only just' covers the dividend for this year.
I thought it would be topical given the pro-VOD and anti-FTE slant of this forum.
    here is the article.

sounds like you are suffering from recency bias.
the future is under no obligation to follow the past.
    this is a cyclical stock.
american manufacturing is back. this is a superior issue and is more than a simple industrial as highlighted by the author.
book value provides support for the valuation.
I initiated at 26.61. Book value per share ~23.8.
Average 12 month PT is 35.1. Throw in a 3% yield, minimal leverage and I think the risk/reward is compelling.

  • Declining Iron Ore Prices Mean More Headwinds For Rio Tinto [View article]
hmm. everyone is waiting for the inevitable correction. given the number who have missed out on the Q1 rally, it may end up being a dip instead. I saw this on Friday which started off as a fierce sell off before ending the day mildly down when all the under-invested folk came out of the woodwork.

RIO has tumbled ~25percent or so in Q1. Not sure how much more it is going to correct.

thanks for the reference bob. I guess he wouldn't get much news coverage if he was a moderate. He is also described as an 'ultrabear'.

His reasoning is that it needs to go to 50 to convince the chinese to give up local production. But local producers produce at a cost of 100-120 and their ore is not the same grade as pialba ore. Hence the dip to the 80s last year was unsustainable.

    Time will tell.

In the meantine, I am long RIO after selling some more healthcare stocks (WLP). I guess this game is about being countercyclical.
I favor RIO over BHP on valuation - I think it is best to buy a miner and energy separately rather than to overpay for a diversified miner. An there are plenty of quality cheap energy stocks (DVN, APA, NOV)

    Regards.
