Tablets provide, at a lower cost, a device for web, email, maps, etc browsing which are the only functions necessary for a majority of owners. They have absolutely no need for MS Office. If they need that software, then they have a PC. Tablet sales are destroying PC sales in sheer numbers because Apple introduced a product that fits lifestyles for, apparently, a lot of folks regardless of how you perceive tablets.
Apple (AAPL) is at risk of losing one of its key competitive advantages over Google’s rival Android system as application developers say they are becoming more constructive with Google's (GOOG) Android smartphone platform. GOOG's app store has long lagged AAPL's iPhone, however the sheer scale of Android, which now accounts for three out of every four smartphones sold, is commanding developers’ attention, despite their continuing difficulties in monetizing the platform. Good point globalbusy..... I think a lot of Apple backers have "twisted bad news fatigue". Meaning, a lot of the news out there is not bad for Apple but has been presented as such in the media. I, at times, have the syndrome as well.

MKTX may be a good investment. It is pricey at current level and although revenue increase yoy is reasonable, annual revenue is lighter than I would expect.
Also, I am not sure baby boomers are shifting to fixed income at current interest rates. Maybe they are, I'm not and don't see that I will until interest rates rise some.

If you think about it, I understand a 3% decline as a lot of customers could not get the product due to demand and/or production issues in a time frame that wasn't irritating. I understand peoplevwant things now.
Although as a shareholder it is disappointing, but CNBC and some financial related articles have a bit of hysterical headlines to generate interest. If the survey is done each quarter, I suspect Apple's ratings will improve 3 points next time.

Could be but he had a monster pay year in 2011. He does not seem to me to be as greedy as some in other industries ( of course it helps when you have his current net worth). Jobs was not overly obsessed with money once he had whatever level of security.

Happy...... iPhone 5 is so boring that it and other iPhones were the #2 traffic generator this holiday in the country. iPad was # 1. Per IBM Benchmark.
Though its P/E is now well into the single digits after backing out cash, Apple (AAPL -1.3%) is having another tough day. Digitimes reported this morning Taiwanese supply chain sources expect Dec. quarter iPad Mini shipments to total just 8M due to continued touch panel shortages (previous); it sees shipments rising to 13M next quarter as panel yields improve. NPD recently reported Apple had raised its Mini display orders to 12M+. [View news story]
After totally exhausting myself in going to 2 different Apple stores on a consistent basis for the last 7 weeks and seeing nothing be just sheer volume in both, I'm not yet to the point of believing the stuff that continues to create a sell off, on a daily basis, in the stock.
I also went to KORS, COH, FOSL, WFM, and didn't see near the customers although all were very active. Only a 10,000 - 15,000 sqf COST store had comparable customer activity. I may be wrong, but I say stay the course, as an x- retailer, I have not seen as much activity on a sqf basis other than SBUX on a Saturday a.m. I am frustrated as I don't know what more I could do to ensure my investment in AAPL is what I perceive it should be.
Lets get past this unbelievable political bs and see what happens in January.

Your analysis is based on all shares being in a taxable account ( non IRA) and all being short term gains. The likelihood of that being the case is a very low percentage of sellers.
Early results suggest a weak holiday season for retailers, with MasterCard's SpendingPulse reporting sales just 0.7% higher than a year ago. "It's a lost season," says the group's Michael McNamera. Not too surprising, major discounting was common in the days leading up to the holiday, and even greater bargains are expected after. [View news story]
Holiday season is still on. "It's a lost season". A .7 % increase over 2011 is not what I consider lost. Granted, sales at this time did not hit the 3-4% increase, however, a yoy loss would be negative growth.
