They did NFC when it mattered. Lower COGS = better margins.

  • Apple Watch Is Making Luxury Watchmakers Uncomfortable [View article]
Billy... I think your son is right. Got my watch (Sport -$ 400 w/taxes) yesterday @4pm. By 9pm I was hooked. My primary reason for purchase was for fitness (walking only, a boomer) tracking.

Grilled last night & went to Sprouts, used map feature (even though I knew how to get there) & worked perfectly via turn by turn, used Apple Pay (works better than pay on phone). Used watch timer to alert when time to flip meat, used watch to control Apple TV watching NFLX program (can start/stop, fast forward/rewind, go to menu functions) w/o using remote control (really convenient), used watch to control LED lighting (HUE app) inside & outside.

The watch design (even though the cheapest one) is remarkable. Not a prior watch wearer but band is some type of rubber that feels like silk & fits perfectly (adjustable). You really don't realize your wearing a watch which was the reason I never wore watches before.

Software integration with the phone & other 3rd party apps is seamless.

Apple support knew I was getting watch (yesterday) & sent me an email prior to delivery indicating I could schedule a 1 on 1 discussion with a support specialist. I scheduled a meeting via a link in the email & the support specialist picture came up & was scheduled for 6pm (couple hours after I got watch). Started playing with watch & was so easy to do functions that I canceled 1 on 1 an hour before it was scheduled. Crazy great support built around getting you going on the device.

Hats off to Apple. Stunningly wow'd me.

  • May 23-- New Highs For S & P /DJ Industrial Avg., Transport Avg. Still Lags.  [View instapost]
    Fear, great analysis as always.

I too keep a close eye, lately, on Transports & appreciate you discussing in your blog. My recent position is that transports appear to me to be a bit backward looking right now due to WTI uncertainty/confusion. With less crude being shipped via rail and the west coast shipping shutdown earlier this year there is uncertainity & therefore pricing pressure. This being my thinking, for a trade I grabbed some LUV this last week at the mid $37 price about 22% off of 52 week high. At this time, willing to hold through 2nd half of year as I believe all airlines are undervalued now. Also picked up, as a trade, VA. LUV & VA are currently my only Transport related positions.

Count me wrong & you right on oil call. If you recall I have been negative on the sector since July of last year. I still have no position as sector earnings were a bit spooky for me. Although, my initial negativity was right, my reluctance to re-enter, as you suggested, was wrong. PXD is a terrific company & it's on my watchlist with CXO, COP, OXY & other smaller energy companies. I put XCO on watchlist after reading in Dallas Morning News Business section 2 Sunday's ago that Wilder is now investing and making all decisions for small natural gas explorer. He championed the former TXU (Texas Utilities) in early 2000's until selling out to KKR, Goldman, etc in 2007. He pocketed $300 million for his efforts. A former employee said he would never ever work for the guy again but he is now a shareholder. Speculative & I have no position at this time.

I am very optimistic for the short term, and have been, so with no stocks hitting my price alerts (other than LUV/VA) I parked > 8% of my cash in VT (Vanguard World Stock Index) several weeks ago. Currently 4% cash.

Agree with your healthcare call. Very long GILD (#3 holding). Health Insurance corps are really hot as well, Long AET, CI, UNH. However, getting a bit nervous on Supreme Court decision as it relates to subsidies for certain states coming in June. Surprised that they continue to hit all time highs. Might get bumpy this week. Not willing to see much price erosion before acting due to how well they have done.

Good luck & appreciate your blog.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Netflix In Talks To Enter China - Reports [View article]
Elizabeth Warren was born in Oklahoma as was my wife. I'm not certain if Warren is or isn't part Native American but being born in Oklahoma she has much better odds of mixed ethnicity.

My wife's grandfather was a blue eyed Cherokee with very dark skin, long jet black hair & unique blue colored eyes. He was married to a brown eyed Caucasian. They had 7 children all of which had blue eyes, high cheekbones and very Caucasian coloring & features (except high cheekbones). None looked as if they were 1/2 Native American nor did their children's children. They did all have blue eyes as did my sons & I have brown eyes which is typically dominate over blue.

    Google "blue eyed Cherokees".

I like Hain at $55 if it gets there. I'm with you on grocery stores although I do wish I had invested in Kroger 2 years ago. Love Sprouts but my dislike of the volitilty makes me sell lower than the price I bought. I just go with suppliers as healthy stuff is absolutely huge with millennials (and others).

iPads had a blowout qtr during the holidays of 2013. IPADs will have a blowout qtr during the holidays 2015 (this year). On the S cycle which is smart to do it that way.

Getting a new mini that has an a8 chip & fingerprint when available.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Where's The Value These Days? [View article]
gggl.... I only give you FACTS. Something that you don't subscribe too. You can continue with you daily politico bs which is mostly misleading.

You might want to do a little research on Depletion Allowances rather than jumping on your politically fueled anger. I have received oil/gas royalties (70's-90's) & I understand associated taxes. Do you? Guess what, my non royalty related income tax was less due to the tax.

What does iphone have to do with your lack of tax knowledge?

Agree Bret.... F is not a trading stock for me based on 1) entry price & 2) my perception of good growth in the future.

I think oil sector softness will also impact F-150 sales. Very, very popular in oil fields.

Not very optimistic in the short term (Q1 report).

gggl..... Depletion Allowance reduces taxes on royalties even while all other expenses to drill & maintain are treated as typical expenses.

Moxi... You are using old data. I'm using most current. If you use most current qtrly reports, your growth statement is misleading to those that may not know. Quit cherry picking dates & use current data like most investors rely on.

Moxi.... I see you are cherry picking dates while I use most current information. My info is correct & can easily be verified. Your info may be correct, not sure & don't care, if you compare 2 year old data.
