  • Market Update 7/11--- Stay Focused - China And Greece Are Non Issues. [View instapost]
    Great stuff Fear!

    Wrote your quote from mid week about 2040 & 2020 levels down in my workbook & used as a guide the last several days. Timely advice for me.

    Even as an optimistic bull, I found myself getting pulled into a neutral stance. The rhetoric was in full bear territory & on several occasions began to question my position. Stayed the course.

    I too added to QRVO & AAPL as I see it the way you explained it. Also added to BRK.B & JNJ. traded out of GILD several weeks ago & started a new position this week but not at the prior level amount of shares. Just 3 weeks ago I thought it would be a long time before I would even trade GILD. I really don't like in & out & in again as you have to be right too many times.

    Thanks for your help the last several weeks. Still have some cash to invest. Will see how financials do this next week & hope to put more money in. I'm optimistic for the earnings this quarter.

    By consolidating the obvious objective is to eliminate overlapping expenses. If that is achieved it should be a good thing. We will see.

    Health insurance corps margin are shrinking due to 80/20 rule. It's the law that 80% of all premiums collected be spent on claims thereby capping @ 20% margin, outside of investment proceeds. Any excess must be given back to policy holders.

    As an individual policy holder I have received a rebate the last 2 years (since ACA was implemented). If you have your insurance via a corp, you probably don't get a rebate nor does your premium go down either (just my guess) as they continue to shift health costs to employees.

  • Apple Music: A $2 Billion Run-Rate Business By April 2016 [View article]

    You've been berating AAPL for over a year now which was about 40% in gains ago. No wonder your angry.

    BTW, I don't need to read about Apple Music because I have had absolutely no problems with it. Took about 4-5 minutes to learn. No problems. What specifically are your issues? None as it's not available in SK.

    What is your issues with the watch? None, you don't have one.

    "Sure I will inevitably be the same way...."

    You don't have to be, I'm not cause I don't want to be. I've learned tons of stuff from my millenial sons & made money off their early adopting of tech, their taste for better food, etc. Millenials will dictate market trends more & more as time goes on. Enjoy later life when it happens & make some money when your kids are your age now and invest in their trends.

  • 10% Correction Feels Imminent [View article]
    Actually had an intra-day Oct 15, 2014 correction of 10% from previous high. Close enough but for whatever reason most don't count that intraday-day hit.

  • 10% Correction Feels Imminent [View article]
    We may get a 10% or more correction & we may not. What I am confident with is that we won't have a day like in the month of Oct 1987 where the Dow lost > 20% in a single day (worst ever recorded) or a global market melt down like in 2008.

    While I do have a larger % in cash than normal now I do believe the consumer is stronger than they have been. Below are data since June 20

    * initial jobless claims lowest since 1974
    * building permits highest since 2007
    * corp profit margins are highest ever & even though IF they begin to decline doesn't mean market drifts lower. (1982-1987 margins drifted lower while stocks went up)
    * household net worth highest ever
    * gov't spending is @ 20% of GDP vs 24% previously
    * Q1 2015 earnings were up 8-9% x-AAPL & x-energy
    * S&P p/e 17%
    * consumer spending up .9% in June while financial burden (debt?) lowest since data collection since began in 1980
    * bank reserves are just shy of $3 per $100 deposits most ever. 2008 was just above 10 cents per $100
    * credit card delinquencies are lowest since data collection began in 1991; credit card corps wrote off 3% in q1 2015 lowest since 1985
    * Michigan consumer sentiment for June was 96.1 (can change quickly)
    * American Association of Independent Investors indicated weekly sentiment at the lowest level since 2008 - not necessarily bearish; mostly bullish during an upward market trend, unlike 2008 which was after fact
    * Bearish Greece, China, Puerto Rico

    Short term bear, long term very bullish. Good luck.

  • Airline stocks fall; DOJ probing price collusion [View news story]
    Wow! Some real hate out here. Chill.

    I have clearly noticed that those that invest based on their political leanings always grossly underperform the S&P500 index.

    If you cannot separate your politics from your investments, history tells you that you would be better off investing in indexes & let it be.

    Life is too short for hatred, whichever way you lean, enjoy before it's too late. Good luck & free yourself. Everything will be ok if you let it be. It's up to you.

    If there is collusion they should be punished regardless if you or I own the stock. Laws are laws for a reason & this administration has certainly punished corps that have been found breaking laws or regulations.

    Short memory on what caused the Great Recession?

    Long AAL & VA.

    If, as you say, OT is not Gov't's business you might want to inform Obama's predecessor as his law created the situation that currently exists.

  • Why Apple Will Escape The $130 Resistance Level [View article]
    Great article Alex. Thanks.

    I like your conservative estimate of 10m for watch sales in 2015. I expect, or hope, it will be more in the range of 15-17m although we may never know the exact number.

    Also expect IPADs sales will be up, substantially, YoY during holiday season this year.

    I will be checking out Apple music this weekend through the next 3 months to see if I'm interested in paying for it subsequently. Currently using iTunes Radio for free. Hope I like it enough to pay for it.

    Thanks again.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Ahold, Delhaize Confirm €26B Mega-Merger [View article]
    In terms of car insurance, A lot depends on the state you reside in as below link indicates.

    Oregon # 30 least expensive - mostly rains from Oct thru June. Very polite drivers

    Utah #40 - less drunks on the road?

    Wisconsin # 46 - bar in every neighborhood so you don't have to drive.
