  • GE says U.S. approves overhaul of aircraft engines for Iran [View news story]
OK some common sense thinking leads to the conclusion that these engines have not been running since the 70's without some type of repairs. I mean these are some pretty precise machines not something your going to fix with JB Weld and duct tape. So spare parts have been getting in somehow. Why not let the US company make some money selling them the parts and cut off the black market trade. This would end the black market trading of parts from other countries (russia) to get special favors and money from Iran.

    disclosure: long GE

  • Pay-TV eye the future as video subscribers decline [View news story]
If i could cut my cord I would. If i could get local programming with sports I would be gone in a second. Also if you could get premium channels like HBO and others without having to get a whole cable package that would be so much better. I would rather pay for each channel separately then get a package with channels i never would watch even if i was completely bored out of my mind. most channels have the videos available a few days after originally airing which doesnt bother me i mean i watch most of DVR any way so i dont watch during the regularly aired time anyway.

but you can never get away fully since you still need internet from the cable companies. Since mobile internet from VZ or ATT isnt fast enough yet for video playback on a larger scale then a 5 inch screen you are basically stuck with subpar service. I mean the menus and equipment hasnt been updated in decades. looking at the interfaces of Netflix or Hulu or others just makes regualr cable look sad

  • Get Long Gold With An 11.6% Yield [View article]
yea but at such high prices that would be a large portion of a portfolio dollar wise. As you would need 100 shares to sell the call. So you are looking at 12K plus per 100 shares which is a large exposure to gold for most people

My brokerage will not let you buy this ETN without calling in and using one of their actual brokers. The reason behind this is it is not liquid and the transaction fees can be very high. On the message boards I have seen as high as $50 transaction fees. This was from people that bought very early.

I like the though of having gold exposure with what is essentially a dividend. This way you do not have to go to the producers that offer a dividend to get gold exposure.

  • General Electric Company declares $0.22 dividend [View news story]
I believe GE will still own a stake in GECC even if every shareholder elects to take the shares of GECC. I believe it will be a swap for GE shares as it is a way for GE to lower their share count.

What people dont realize is that GECC is one of the reasons why the divy was so high. so if you spin that off the difference has to come from some where. So you have GE common stock and GECC common stock which i assume will pay a dividend.(but you know what they say about assumptions)

  • General Electric Company declares $0.22 dividend [View news story]
I believe 20% of GEC will be IPOed then in 2015 shareholders of GE will get the option to tender shares of GE common stock in return for GEC common stock. I have not seen the ratio for GEC to GE stock. This way they can reduce the number of GE common stock outstanding.

Also i am not sure yet if the whole process is set in stone yet. So when they finally get the whole process complete we will get details about how shareholders will get a stake in GEC

  • How Obama's 'MyRA' Plan Will Impact The U.S. Economy [View article]
Atlas Shrugged was about the producers being sucked dry by the unproductive. That free handouts only lead to wanting more free handouts. That rewarding unproductive and mediocrities and punishing productivity and entrepreneurship leads to the death of an economy and or civilization. examples being unlimited welfare and unemployment for years instead of weeks or months.

  • Wal-Mart and Kroger play it 'smart' with payment cards [View news story]
What i am waiting for is the moment the banks and/or credit cards stop canceling these charges from stolen data. Its not the bank/credit cards fault the data was stolen. That is money out of their pockets. Who becomes responsible then?

This situation is way worse then we already know and is not going to get any better. If you think we have heard of all these incidents your crazy. Its not like all these companies retail or not that have been hacked and your info stolen have step forward, and say, "Hey we are not smart enough or spend enough money to keep your info safe please come shop with us some more."

  • Wal-Mart and Kroger play it 'smart' with payment cards [View news story]
If the worlds largest consumer economy switches to the smart card it will eventually become easy to "hack". That is why window systems get viruses more often the other operating systems there are just more of them then the others. Any computer system can be breached plain and simple. So when you are targeting the most destruction you pick the largest quantity target. What people need to stop and realize is anything stored on a computer can be stolen. There is not an "unhackable" system out there. Never will be!

  • GE to close NY capacitor plant [View news story]
Good for GE wish Boeing would do the same thing. Destroying the Unions will make the USA more competitive in manufacturing again. Bring those jobs to the South where you actually have to work to keep your job not just hold a union card.
