  • Treanda® plus Rituxan® followed by Zevalin® - New Standards for NHL & Indolent Lymphoma [View instapost]
    Hi Jason,

I agree with you that Zevalin, chemo or Treanda should be allies. Most importantly, studies have shown that achieving a complete remission (CR) is an important factor in increasing the duration of remission periods and for improving the survival of patients. Several studies have also shown that RIT produces the highest CR rates as well as the longest periods of remission, often measured in years. Additional studies such as the ones you mention are adding to that growing body of evidence. Thus I believe - and deeply hope - that consolidation therapy will find greater acceptance - which of course translates in more sales for the company.

  • Spectrum Pharma: Zevalin Sales Ramp Up [View article]
    Hi Justin,

As you know, I am a 7 year survivor of NHL, thanks to Zevalin, one of the two radioimmunotherapy (RIT) drugs (the other is Bexxar). Last Wednesday evening, I interviewed Dr. Mitchell Smith, Director, Lymphoma Service, at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, and asked him when RIT should be used and whether he thought the approval of Zevalin in combination with chemo for frontline treatment would increase usage. His answer: "I hope so." He went on to discuss it quite positively and suggested that patients should advocate for themselves, something I have been saying in the patient community for a long time. For anyone who wants to listen, go to my website: lymphomabook.com/Lymph..., scroll down to the interview with Dr. Smith, click listen. If you just want to hear his answer about RIT, you can slide the bar to the appropriate section. It begins at 38:59.

Thanks for announcing info about the webcasts! I'll be devoting a show to RIT sometime in December.

Thanks - and you can count on me keeping up the fight to raise awareness of RIT! It's a team effort and I'm glad you're on the team!!! Please let me know when the other post comes out.

    All the best,
    Betsy

Thank you for writing about RIT. I'm greatly surprised to find myself quoted in your blog - but since you said "Ask Betsy de Parry for her take," I'll give it to you! Simply stated, I wouldn't be alive today without RIT, and neither would many others that I know.

The comments that I posted on the blog on July 16 - to which you have a link above - still stand. I would only add that far too many patients aren't getting these life-saving drugs for the wrong reasons (see the "Myths and Facts" section in the section on my website under "Radioimmunotherapy: The Treatment That Saved My Life" at lymphomabook.com).

RIT is such an important option for NHL patients. I hope and pray that it will soon find its rightful place in the treatment of the disease. Everyone deserves the same chance that I've had.
