  • Apple to Buy Lala? [View article]
This might be a continuation of the Adobe-Apple Flash war. Apple may be buying Lala so they can replace Adobe's proprietary Flash with stds based HTML5.

  • Can Apple Stop the Android? [View article]
"To my eyes, this is looking like a repeat of the Macintosh-PC Wars of the 1990s which Apple lost."

Internet Meme - The term Internet meme is a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet, much like an esoteric inside joke.

This meme has legs; seen it at least 20 times in the past year. Interestingly, besides 'legs', it has no relationship to where the iPhone and Android are actually going.

Android will help kill Win Mobile. The Palm WebOS is dead unless deep pockets buy it; RIMM's BB and Nokia's Maemo will weaken.

Android and iPhone will survive the brutal wars, but only iPhone will dominate where it counts most - market share and net earnings.

Apple's dominance will be clearly apparent by Jan 2012.

  • Research In Motion: Still the Best Positioned Smartphones Play [View article]
Here's the business argument for iPhone.

Highly competitive creative businesses are using it in very innovative ways. How long will it take for testimonials like these to open the doors to large enterprise environments?

    www.apple.com/iphone/b...

And also, "iPhone has raised expectation levels for all smartphones..."

One thing I've noticed about friends who are skeptical about the iPhone's reputation: They assume that new competing smartphones are better than the REAL thing and buy something else because it's not an iPhone!

Some of these friends are now regretfully waiting their contracts out to get an iPhone.

Sorry, seems to me the iPhone and Android will be competing with each other while taking major market share from Windows Mobile and Symbian, and, to a lesser extent, from RIMM.

What about Apple's PA Risc team's surprise? They're tweaking the recently announced ARM Cortex A9 dual processor.

How long will it take the 'rest of us (them!)' to match half the performance (power and battery life) in that monster?

"Granted, there’s no news on an input system, and if it is through a on-screen keyboard, this device will be severely handicapped from a productivity standpoint."

    Aw, come on.

It will have an optional Blue Tooth keyboard, the only question being, "Will it be from Apple or 3rd parties?"

(Yes, it will cost $50 and you will buy it.)

  • The App Store Changes Apple's Mission [View article]
    Apple TV ==>

Packaged as a large iMac (30"+ w/ front facing video) becomes a video cam for families, friends, and business. People will connect with each other in chairs, couches, desks, and tables through bandwidth sparing iFrame, the new little brother std to HD Video just shipped by Apple.

iFrame uses 1/4 the bandwidth of 1080 HD video.

Bring on the globally transformative expansion of video communications across TVs, iPhones, Macs, PCs AND, of course, Apple's new expression dominantly creative innovation.

  • With Vonage App, Apple Isn't Even Bothering to Lie Anymore [View article]
    Michael,

So much bad blood. If you're right, Apple might be lying!

Why can't Apple be totally truthful like MSFT, GOOG, AMZN, PALM, NOKIA, and IBM?

  • Sorry Zune, Apple's Won MP3 Market [View article]
"MSFT has their hands in consumer electronics as a whole."

In terms of making $$$$, the picture is very different:

    - XBox - not profitable - Current Annual Profit is in, but they still have billions to pay back in R&D costs.

    - Zune and ZuneHD - money loser, still

    - Plays for Sure - no comment

    - MSFT Retail - I wonder how this will turn out. (NOT)

    - Msft support of HD Video - huh?

    - Msft's Zune branded cell phone - coming in 2011! (Wait for it.)

Msft owns the enterprise (Heard of Stockholm Syndrome?). They have millions of micro surfs in IT and media doing their bidding because these guys earn their living by sucking at the msft cash machine teet.

    Disclosure: Not long msft

  • Apple: Exploding iPhone Profits [View article]
I might be missing something about the last 2 lines of your last spreadsheet, but here goes:

Aren't the values for GAAP and non-GAAP Target Stock Price reversed? (The GAAP values are actually the non-GAAP values and visa versa.)

    Great article. Thanks.

  • Apple Is Still a Great Investment, Right? Not for Value Investors [View article]
I presume you're using GAAP numbers for FCF instead of non-GAAP. The difference being that Apple defers the revenue and profits of the iPhone over 2 years.

If you switch to non-GAAP FCF and recalculate w/ 15, you'll get a valuation of over $240 using your method.

    Response?
