- a device ecosystem including: powerful integration with all Apple products (the 'halo'), micropayments (120mm credit cards), $38B in the bank, dominance in music, growing dominance in pocket PCs...

You've a huge misunderstanding of iPhone profits. Reread the WSJ article you cite. Apple's gross profits per iPhone (telecom subsidy included)are estimated to be $400+ (not your $27).

"On a per phone basis, Wu estimated that Apple gets about $600 a phone..." from your WSJ source.

PS - You also messed, up big, time in points 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, and 10, but I won't get into those.

PPS - Turning lemons to lemonade, consider going long aapl (as I am).

Does Palm's Pre Have a Chance Against the iPhone?

Pre has a very small chance of survival.

It MUST ship a high quality, high reliability, high functioning cell from day one (and on time).

If it ships well, it will survive, perhaps by being bought out.

(Shipping well is not something to take for granted.)
