  • J.C. Penney: Adjusted Book Value Less Than $6 Per Share [View article]
What does it take for some people to finally see the light? JCP died a long time ago and is never going to come back.

  • What To Look For When Investing In J.C. Penney [View article]
In addition to anger over the exclusions customers are angry upon discovering a lower original price under the poorly placed stickers, sometimes not even bothering to cover the lower price. Upon expressing their dismay the cashier will then 'blame' the shoppers for wanting coupons and discounts.
We all know it's not the fault of the customers that wanted coupons and discounts but the millions of dollars in renovation costs that are to blame for higher prices.

  • What Is Going On With J.C. Penney? [View article]
I have strong doubts about their ability to recover. They weren't making it before with the same merchandise so why would things just magically pick up with a different CEO at the helm? They need to appeal to the entire family as before, not just the trendy hipsters as they are doing now.

  • A judge dismisses the claim from Macy's (M +1.9%) of unfair competition by J.C. Penney (JCP -2.9%). The ruling could clear the path for the retailer to sell Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSO) lines again unimpeded. [View news story]
I wouldn't count on that! The final ruling is yet to come and the judge may award Macys damages and rule against JCP yet. They are just allowed to sell the merchandise for now without her name on it. That means the cost of rebranding in order to move any of it. It would be an added expense and they might not even bother until the final judgement.

Well, that was stupid. I guess contract agreements don't mean anything anymore.

  • Is J.C. Penney Now A Buy? [View article]
Johnson had them re ticketing and raised their prices 30-40% before the 20% off sale started. He thought customers were too stupid to notice.

  • Wal-Mart Should Pick Off J.C. Penney [View article]
Maybe my family is snobs but it's hard to believe people actually buy clothes from supermarkets and places like Target.

  • J.C. Penney's Desperate Decision [View article]
Firing Johnson says to me the Q1 results were absolutely catastrophic. I don't think this company will recover from Johnson's failed attempts.

  • Spending on small kitchen appliances jumped 10% last year to $5.51B as new tech features drew in the baby boomer generation. The latest buzz is that edgy appliances to make tea and yogurt concoctions could be the latest craze. Look for Macy's (M), Williams-Sonoma (WSM), SodaStream (SODA), and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) to take advantage of the trend while J.C. Penney (JCP) and Sears Holdings (SHLD) have a little catching up to do. [View news story]
The other 90% doesn't buy into silly fads ;)

  • This week will see J.C. Penney (JCP) open its new home goods section at 500 of its stores in a launch seen as vital to restoring confidence in the retailer. The category has slumped dramatically for J.C. Penney in recent years as competition has increased on the high-end (Williams-Sonoma) and low-end (T.J. Maxx). [View news story]
TJ Maxx has home goods? Who knew.

  • BMO Capital takes its rating on J.C. Penney (JCP -1.1%) down to Underperform from Market Perform with the retailer's cash position a primary concern. Last quarter, the company missed its target for free cash flow even with its account payable getting stretched out. [View news story]
The difference is Kohls doesn't advertise "everyday low prices" which implies that the prices do not change except to go lower on clearance.

They marked up all of those so called Fair & Square everyday low prices about $5 per pair of pants & shirts in the past week or so to get ready for this 'sale' . Johnson thinks the customer is so uneducated they won't notice.

  • How Low Can J.C. Penney Go? [View article]
JCP brands are not what they used to be, there is no longer any quality in their products. They have now become known for cheap materials and poor construction.
