Private Equity to Buy Cadence Design Systems?

What do you make of Mentor now that they're acquiring Sierra DA? Won't that make them a full-fledged IC EDA company, to compete directly with Cadence, Synopsys, and Mentor?

Are you serious about rolling up TSMC, Cadence, ARM, etc.? I thought the whole idea for economic efficiency was disintermediation (?) and specialization. It's what's enabled the huge fabless semiconductor industry.

Natural Disasters: Is Magma's Loss Cadence's Win?

I haven't heard of any customers switching from Magma to Cadence. There may be a few, of course. Remember in the days when Avant! was in legal trouble, most customers continued to use their tools without any legal problems.

I have read speculation of some combination of Magma with Mentor Graphics, because their product lines are very complimentary.
