Thanks for your update on STWD....I believe they are trading at 1.4times book value...any comment to this as far as over or under....and what economic change would be hard on share price and whats the catalyst for this going higher?...they have been stuck in a trading range and eps are rangebound $2-$2.20...thanks again for the article....

  • Bank Of America And A 6.1% Yield? Yes, Please [View article]
To anyone.....what kind of criteria do you use to sell...I bought a perpetual with a first call date of 2025 not investment grade coupon of 7.5 for 25.5...four months later its over 28 so I've made almost 10% ...the current yield is about 6.7%...would you sell this and look for another in the 25 range or just hang on....I hate to lose that 10% on anything....thanks for some input...

Everyone has an opinion as to what makes a good investment....I just happen to believe RSP will beat out almost all of these dividend portfolios over time....my personal details don't have much to do with this discussion....

  • Why An Income Portfolio Beats Capital Gains Every Time [View article]
I went back to Oct of 2009 and calculated total returns

    cvx,mcd,k,mmm,ko......... total return 99.9%

    SPY...................... total return 116.84%

    RSP...................... total return 140.2%

I hope that length of time satisfies the doubters....while I find dividends and interest an important part of ones portfolio....I find other metrics show different results when you consider total return....

To both of you "contributors"......my goal was to open ones eyes to something other than the dividend....most people fail to look at total return....I agree with you 100% 3.5months does not mean much....but it's another calculation people need to be aware of......eom

I went back and used the daily close vs a weekly close and the result is for a -1.06% total return thru 4/17 for those five stocks vs a +2.3% for rsp which is the s&P500 equal weight....I gave up picking individual stocks because of this...I proved that out with doug meeks 16 stock portfolio also....his showed a .89%loss ytd....numbers don't lie....

For ytd total returns....cvx, mcd, k, mmm, ko...equal -.96%...spy is +1.7% and rsp equal weight is 2.3%....this is just another exercise that proves out the index wins again.....

Doug I just stumbled upon this article.....interesting but what about this....as of the end of 4/17/15...those 16 stocks have netted out to a .89% loss ytd total return...the s&p is up 1.7% and the equal weight s&p is up 2.3%....tell me why I should waste my time with these 16 stocks when I can place one order for rsp and be up 2.3% vs a loss of .89%....everytime I put together a div portfolio....it loses to the s&p....If I need cash, I just sell something....thanks
