Yeah Lenovo makes some interesting stuff like that, which saddens me to say since if I could I'd buy American, but HP and Dell have really just been dismal.

This post reminds me of the comparisons and conversations popular before Apple switched off PowerPC.

Lots of efforts to nail down if there was any advantage and how much to using x86 over the PowerPC product. Apple's low volume didn't provide much incentive to produce better and faster PowerPC chips at a quick pace and Apple eventually migrated.

Today is different obviously in that Apple has some chip design in house now, and its volumes are enormous.

The Core i5 in Surface Pro is like 3-5x more powerful than the ARM based SurfaceRT. But only consumes 2x the battery power.

Memory heavy/processing heavy multitasking on Atom based chips, and by extension ARM based products as well, is painful. At least compared to desktop Windows.

I didn't purchase Surface RT since I wanted Pro for the i5, but I played with it in the MSFT store and it's pretty snazzy. It feels like the full Windows experience. I checked some of my common use stuff on it and everything worked nicely, the product never sent me to a tablet OS portal.

That said I need something with gobs of Ram, and am not sure even the Pro will work, since as far as I can tell it maxes out at 4gb. After hearing that I started looking at ultrabooks again.

Lots of Big Money in APPL, it's the biggest part of a lot of investment firms portfolios, I am very wary of what is going on with it.
