  • Israel says seized big Hezbollah-bound arms ship [View instapost]
Far from the first time. Remember when they captured the Karine-A from Iran filled with something like 50-70 tons of weapons intended for Arafat? That was how he spent US tax payers' aid money.

Lots of great youtube video of ambulances being caught smuggling suicide bombers into Israel too. It's a catch-22, if they let the ambulances in right away, women and children get blown to bits, if they wait to search the vehicles first, Human Rights organizations scream bloody foul. of course they disregard the fact that Israel is providing free emergency services to a neighboring country (Gaza) who are sworn enemies and openly call for the their destruction. Its a sad situation that will likely never be solved in our lifetime despite Obama's decision to try to appease the arab world.

  • The U.S. Dollar and Oil: is an Endgame Near? [View instapost]
The video ends early so its hard to say. Maybe the author was just paraphrasing since the word "stupid" isn't in quotes. If it is a direct quote, the author really should have used them (don't mean to nitpick here though). I do seem to recall Pickens has called the US stupid before though. It looks like earlier in the year he did say America's huge dependence on foreign oil "...borders on being stupid."

You can see the quote at the end of the CNBC article here:
    www.cnbc.com/id/29233249

Context is always important when quoting though.

  • Cha-Ching: Microsoft Pays Users to Search with Bing [View article]
You are both wrong. Yes, Bing used to be live.com (as stated in the article). But the BRANDNAME Bing is only from this past June (as also stated in the article). The author was pointing out that this promotion was a form of advertising to promote the brand recognition of Bing and get people onto the site- and it has worked. Everyone knows "Google," if they know of Bing, they might try it too. And while the cashback is not new, this is the first time they've doubled it across the board (once again this was stated in the article).

Past promotions have only featured one store. The ebay promotion was great but I didn't really care when the promotion was for Barnes and Noble only or Drugstore.com only. But when it is EVERY store, its got something for everyone. And none of those older promotions ever came close to 50% OFF YOUR PURCHASE! That's pretty exciting. Buy something with a mail in rebate too, and your end price could be free. So yes, this is new and it is big. And it is definitely getting Bing noticed.

mrluc, I don't know why you hate Bing so much. A lot of people like it very much! As for not figuring out how to sort by price, you have to be blind not to. If you couldn't figure it out, I think it is more a reflection on you than on Microsoft. The MS boys know what they're doing, they aren't exactly incompetent (but of course there is always room for improvement).

mriuc: Of course you can sort by price. I think you just haven't figured out how to use Bing. There are two ways to access cashback, one is through regular search and one is going directly to their cashback section (bing.com/cashback). Trying using the search there instead. Microsoft aren't idiots and are pretty good at building software and websites.

It will definitely increase their market share in the short term. And while not all users will be sticky in the long term, at least some will be.

Hot Damn! You bet I'll try out Bing if they pay me to do it! I'm heading over there right now. I can think of a few things I would like to buy at half the cost. Thanks for the tip and nice article.
