  • Early feedback on U.K./Canadian BlackBerry Q10 (BBRY -4%) sales indicate volumes below expectations, says Cleveland Research. The firm also thinks Z10 sell-thru is likely half of what it was around launch time, and believes BB10 build targets for the next few quarters could fall to 6M-8M from 10M-12M. Likewise, Pac Crest remains bearish, and calls the U.K./Canadian Q10 launches a "mess." The remarks follow a pessimistic note about BB10 sales on Monday from Canaccord, and one on April 25 from Wedge Partners. Jefferies has been more positive. [View news story]

So Cleveland Research says volumes are below expectations. What a surprise.

  • Apple (AAPL +2.6%) commanded 57% of smartphone profits in Q1, and Samsung (SSNLF.PK) 43%, estimates Canaccord's Mike Walkley. All other OEMs collectively broke even, after having lost money last year. Apple's profit share is down from 2012's 69%, and Samsung's up from 2012's 34% - chalk those changes up to Samsung's share gains and Apple's gross margin decline. Walkley also writes Samsung's Galaxy S4 is off to a strong start (in spite of some reports of overheating), that checks indicate U.S. BlackBerry Z10 (BBRY +0.7%) sales are soft, and that U.K. Q10 supplies have been limited. [View news story]
Obviously you haven't looked at the Z10 or the Q10.

  • Caterpillar: Buy Now As The Shares Have Bottomed Out [View article]
I think it will be temporary. They have other areas where they can make money. They also have a financing arm where they can lend money or lease equipment if need be.

The one other bright spot I see is that if you look at the Statement of Cash Flows, you can see that the payments received from loans given to clients, meets or exceeds their long-term debt payments. So as long as people are paying CAT their loan payments, CAT will be able to service their debt and stay afloat during the global down turn.

I bought in today. There are a lot of opportunities out there for CAT. Brazil is one market that is opening up to them. Once they figure out how to deal with the Chinese (perhaps consult with Google?) they will have a lot of new opportunities for growth. With Europe representing about a quarter of CAT's revenue, any upturn in their economy will jump start CAT.

Look for CAT to make some waves in Brazil. Lots of potential there and Brazil's economy is growing close to 5%.

Or it could be that companies don't want to compete with the iconic Blackberry keyboard so they just let Blackberry have that niche in the market.

A dividend? That would be too good to be true. Awesome idea though.
