  • A Tale Of 2 Bank Stocks [View article]
How does a share repurchase put money in my pocket? I would have to sell my shares in order to realize any actual gain. Dividends put money into my pocket without me having to sell my shares. Also, with each dividend payment, my cost basis is lowered. Eventually, with enough dividend payments, my ROI becomes infinite. How do you get that with share repurchases?

Net interest margin of 9.39%, up 30 bps Y/Y thanks to lower funding costs. Reserve release of $154M vs. $274M a year ago. Expenses of $75M, up 12% Y/Y due to higher compensation costs. Here I thought things like jobs, housing, and GDP were important in determining economic recovery. But I guess Discover's 30-day delinquency rate is the real economic indicator.

Just because people aren't late on a payment, does not mean the economy is turning around. Sorry, but people are without work, the number on food stamps is astronomical, and there is no end in sight. The economy is junk right now. There is a new wave of foreclosures coming. Just wait.

  • A Dividend Sin: Selling Coke To Buy An Apple [View article]
    Buildingyield4years-

You just lost credibility by painting all conservatives as dumb. While I agree that this article was not a political one and the liberal comment by njja was ill advised, to attack someone for generalizing a group of people but then to go and generalize a group of people yourself is childish and pointless. You are exactly the thing you condemned njja for. I am not a huge FOX fan, but at least they have some guts to keep the President in check.

Anywho, I will go ahead and comment on the article now.

KO is easily a buy, hold, and accumulate stock. You know you are going to get your quarterly dividend payments, annual increases, and price appreciation. It's a "can't miss" stock. It is the core of my portfolio.

  • Dividends: Should I Reinvest Or Not? [View article]
It is sprint here in Wisconsin... until tomorrow when we get a couple of inches of snow. :)

Anyway, I am just patiently waiting for the day when I can make that decision to DRIP or not instead of automatically DRIPing. It will come soon enough. For now I am just enjoying learning about DGI investing. Thank you for the great article again.

  • Dividends: Should I Reinvest Or Not? [View article]
For me it became a no brainer when I first saw the power of compounding demonstrated in an example a year or so ago. What really hammered it home was what was I going to do with a $15 dividend payment from company ABC? That wouldn't even buy me a tank of gas. Might as well reinvest it and have it working for me. Until my dividend payments become more substantial, I am DRIPing everything. I have plenty of time on my side as I am only 33.

  • Bank Of America Misses Estimates - Why You Should Still Consider [View article]
Oh ok, so I have to mimic Warren Buffett? I can't have my own investment strategy and plan? For me to invest in a company it must pay a dividend, increase that dividend annually, and grow earnings. Plain and simple. BAC doesn't do anything but pay a miniscule divy. Until it establishes itself as a dividend growth company, I am not interested.

As long as they keep paying the dividends and increasing them annually. That's how long my timeline would be.

I am not looking for bang for my buck. I am looking for cash in my pocket. While the price has importance, it's not as important as a company paying me quarterly cash to hold their shares. I only realize a cash gain on share price appreciation if I sell the stock. I keep getting paid the dividends regardless of the price.

Because I don't want to have to sell my assets to pocket money. Dividends give me money without the need to sell a single share. Over time that leads to an infinite ROI.

  • Altria: A Classic Dividend Growth Stock [View article]
Exactly Minutemen. So should a person not invest in Coke because of obesity issues that sugar causes? Same could be said for McDonald's. Wal-Mart, Target, etc sell products that cause cancer and obesity. Exactly what can be invested in?

While I think smoking is a poor decision for a person to make, that person makes that decision with their own free will. Tobacco companies do not force people to smoke. If you don't know the risks by now, you really don't stand much chance in the real world. Also as far as 3rd world countries go, do you think them dying from smoking is really an issue? I mean they face much more terrible things like tyrannical and tortuous governments, poverty, diseases, starvation, etc. I am a former user. I don't like the stuff, but people can still make their own choices.

Technically the United States is not domestic to $BBRY. Canada would be domestic. US is foreign. Also, most are waiting for the Q10. That is the main reason the Z10 hasn't sold as well as some had hoped, although sales seem to be doing just fine.
