  • The Plunge Protection Team Exposed [View article]
The difference between using Occam's razor to explain natural phenomena (where it is sometimes useful) and using it to explain subversive human action is volition.

Not to speak to the believability of the PPT, but people often fallaciously invoke Occam's razor to dismiss complex facts beyond their comprehension or personal experience. e.g., when trying to explain a lack of concern with security protocols when it comes to online activities (strong passwords, encryption, etc), it's easy for the uninitiated to claim that comprehensive attacks would take so much effort to plan, execute and conceal that their very existence is preposterous and unlikely... while any hacker will tell you that this sort of abject complacency is the basis of social engineering and a majority of exploits.

I'm sure it's the same with any good crime or successful conspiracy. Otherwise, you might as well be arguing that any complex crime is impossible to execute without being detected.

  • IPod vs. Satellite Radio: The Battle For Consumers' Hearts [View article]
Needless to say, the characterization of portable media player content loading/finding as something incredibly time-consuming, expensive, tedious, only for criminals, Satanists, Michael Vick, etc., is misleading and wrong.

It reeks of an appeal to fear argument that you might hear from a satellite marketer. I believe the young and aimless call that FUD.

There are other ways to fill your personal music player besides the itunes store or illicit downloading. The vast majority of music on mine was ripped from my personal CD collection. Also, the net is full of great music that's free to download, like archive.org's Live Music archive. And there are podcast subscriptions, which are an easy way to get exposure to new music if that's your desire.

Satellite radio's main draw IMO is the exclusive live content, not the standard music stations.

  • World Wrestling Entertainment: Profit From the Panic  [View article]
Scanning the fan communities online, a lot of the enthusiasm for WWE seems to be fading. As Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has commented, this is something that's never happened before in the wrestling world... making predictions about how fans will react over the long term might very well backfire.
