  • More on the iPhone: Gene Munster says his latest Apple Store checks indicate "the iPhone 5 has finally reached a point where consumers can walk into an Apple Store and walk out with a phone." He also notes AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint are all "showing 90%+ availability" for the iPhone, which recently saw its shipping time on Apple's online store fall to 1 week. Munster still forecasts 45M Dec. quarter iPhone sales - he was predicting 49M when the quarter started. (previous[View news story]
iOS still has a lot of room for improvement and new features. Widget could be next. I won't be surprise if they introduce widgets in their next software release. we are already seeing widgets in cydia (which is a jailbreak version of app store). I am sure apple are toying around with widgets in cydia right now.

  • BTIG's Richard Greenfield has joined Bernstein's Carlos Kirjner in upgrading Facebook (FB +6.8%) - the actions have driven shares above $25 for the first time since August. Greenfield, who now rates Facebook a Neutral, predicts Facebook's efforts to stuff its news feed with ads - something he still sees hurting the user experience - will help deliver Q4 revenue of $1.55B, above a $1.49B consensus. Kirjner, meanwhile, thinks the success of Facebook Exchange will slow down the pace at which PC ad sales drop. [View news story]
I use Facebook on a daily basis and i feel that ads that i see on both desktop and mobile platform are very effective. big ad block is right in the middle of the screen and it does not bother eyes. they are also effectively targeting ads to different demographics with all the information they have from the users.

  • Facebook's (FB) brutalizing after going public may be the best thing that could've happened to the company, says Pimco's Mohamed El-Erian. Prior to its IPO, the company could do no wrong, but suddenly that's all changed. It's mystique has been replaced by the harsh reality of analyst's calls and downgrades. Hopefully, if FB's reality check is successfully internalized by management and staff, the company may well avoid what could have been an even bigger shock down the road. [View news story]
question is how low this stock can go before zuckerberg comes up with a plan to monetize the mobile facebook. may be he already has a plan and just waiting for this stock to hit the lowest number so that he buddies can pickup it up at a cheap price. everything is fair in wall street these days.

  • More on Gap (GPS): Q2 revenue beats the firm's own pre-announced estimates as well as consensus, but guidance comes in light. For the quarter, net sales outside the U.S. and Canada increased 7% Y/Y. Comparable sales breakdown: Gap +7% Y/Y; Banana Republic North America +7%; Old Navy North America +3%; International -5%. Expects full-year EPS of $1.95-$2.00 and operating margin to increase a percentage point to 11%. Shares +1.1% AH. (PR .pdf) [View news story]
I am absolutely disappointed by how Gap has lowered the quality of the material. Even though I still buy jeans from gap which has gone from 45 bucks to 70 bucks in a matter of a year because it fits me well, I have stopped buying other merchandise from this company.

  • Knight Capital (KCG) is set to resume its full market-making activities on the NYSE on Monday after yesterday gaining much of its market share back. Knight reportedly spoke to ~90 potential suitors about rescuing the firm, with rival Citadel offering a $500M loan in return for a 10-20% stake and control of Knight's Hotspot FX trading platform. [View news story]
I don't see any reason why anyone would not lend money to KCG. if they remove the buggy software and install the most recent stable version, they are back in the business of printing money. As far as future bugs are concerned, they just have to ensure they fully test the software before they roll it out. I am sure they have learned from their mistake.

  • The beat goes on: Henry Blodget argues Siri (AAPL) offers no threat to Google's search dominance (GOOG -0.9%) "whatsoever," finding that except in limited cases using Google is "vastly more convenient, precise, and helpful" than firing up tricky voice commands. In his cruelest cut of all Blodget calls the Siri service a "fun toy," a description that falls pretty short from one Apple exec who called the launch a "world-changing event."  [View news story]
what bloget is arguing could be true. all of you iphone 4S users, how much SIRI do you really use in a day ?

  • Could the iPhone Sink Verizon's Network? [View article]
it's hard to say if At&t sucks or the iphone. from my personal experience, I was using android on at&t network and i was happy with it until it stopped working when water got into it. I thought I'll go find something new so i bought iphone 3g 16 gig off the craigslist. now i am having problem with dropped call from iphone that i never experienced before. many of my incoming calls go right into my voicemail. In a same area where i used to have full bar on my android phone, i now barely get 2 bars. i really don't know what is the problem but iphone is on top my problem list.
i am thinking moving back to android. i like smart phone and it's capabilities but if a phone doesn't act like a phone then you gotta get rid of it
