  • More on Apple: Raymond James reports many iPhone suppliers have "recently indicated an expectation of earlier seasonality," and takes it as evidence of a pending refresh. A big drop in shipments is expected for the June quarter, followed by Sep. quarter growth. The big question for Apple is whether an iPhone 5S that keeps a 4" display (as has been reported) will lead to a major sales pickup in the face of growing demand for larger displays, and the upcoming launch of Samsung's Galaxy S IV. However, an early 5S release would suggest an accelerated launch for an iPhone 6 rumored to have a bigger display. [View news story]
You are right, there is a maximum size, however, one of my business partners, who is a guy, has to put his iphone 5 into landscape mode to be able to type. If he does it in portrait mode, his fingers keep hitting different letters. When he uses my Xperia Z with a 5 inch display, he doesnt have the problem, so there is a need for a wider screened iphone.

You could well be right.....a person I know in the PR sector tells me that Apple's PR machine have been working over time in the last two weeks. They use sub-agencies to push out info, but if you know who they are, you can easily trace it back to its originating source. Where do you think WSJ get their stories from?....A person with knowledge of such things APParently.

    Hi Ed

I think you are right. Short of adding a teleporter to a phone, everything is incremental from now on. It will be like the PC sector. Faster speeds, more ram, bigger hard drives and better graphics, oh and maybe bigger display sizes, but you can only go so far on screen size before a phone becomes a tablet, so there are limits to that. Finger print readers ( an Apple iphone rumour ), sensors that scroll for you ( a Samsung rumour ) are just gimmics really, they dont actually advance anything. Now if Apple could make a phone that would do the shopping, I would be seriously impressed.

No I am not bias, I am just fed up reading that Android is rubbish when it isn't and is not worse than iOS when it comes to bugs. I guess some people are blind because there has been a lot of information about the bugs in iOS6, but that isn't the point, The point is all OS's have bugs. I will agree though that Android is not usually easy to update in the sense that you cannot usually do it just via your phone. You have to plug it into a PC ( or Mac ) and do it that way, but that is more to do with the carriers ( telco's ) than Google. And yes there are a few different versions flying around, however, once you do update, in my experience, there are very few issues ( notice I said in my experience ). I now have the new Sony Xperia Z with the very latest version so hopefully I wont need to update it for a while. But you know what, the world isn't a perfect place. If it was, I would be the queen of england, so we all have to put up with a little hardship every now and again.

You hit the nail on the head, they need products that are going to grow the business and redesigned ipads and S versions of iphones are not those products. If they seriously want to capture the emerging markets with iphones, they have no choice but to come up with a lower costs iphone. The average salary in India for example is less than $3000.....pretty much the same in China and in Brazil it is around $2500 ( I mention Brazil because someone else has written an article on Brazil and completely missed this ). In these situations an $850 iphone is simply not going to sell in huge volumes. Yes, there is still growth in established markets, but everyone else is targeting these markets as well, so growth slows by definition, i.e too many players going after the same pool of buyers, therefore, if Apple brought out a lower cost iphone, they could score very high in the emerging markets on the quality of their products. Is it ever going to happen?......Who knows.

Well, if you take the point that supply constraints have affected sales, the fundamentals are clearly not right. And if there is growing manufacturing capacity, why were there supply issues?

Err....iOS6 has also had a lot of bugs and updates to fix some bugs have then introduced even more bugs. And try asking all the Apple iphone users who have had wifi, excessive data usage and charges and battery draining issues how satisfied they are.

The only problem is the WSJ report has been discredited as pure fantasy......You really should research information properly before writing on here.

" As per recent news, Google CFO Patrick Pichette has denied all the rumors that mentioned that Google has strained relationships with Samsung. The statement by Pichette came after leading newspapers carried headlines about tensions between Google and Samsung.

He called such news as a tool used by journalists to create bigger headlines and sell their newspapers.

He spoke at a Morgan Stanley investment conference, where he claimed that Google shared wonderful relation with Samsung Inc. They have been very successful in using Android platform and benefitted like rest of the firms, he added. He also said that he welcomed all the partners that used Android platform and asked them to continue with innovation. He also affirmed that the giant was aimed at providing benefits to as much as number of partners as possible in using the open source. In addition, he talked of the benefits Google and Samsung have earned from Chromebook. "

"The Chromebook is a runaway success; it's a runaway success for Google, it's a runaway success for Samsung. And so, what is not to like about these types of environments", he added.

There is of course a possible downside with the iwatch. If it works in conjunction with an iphone, there is no need to purchase the latest iphone version, you just keep your older one and use the iwatch. Also, if it is going to work with bluetooth, then why do you need it. Bluetooth works with the iphone. I think some of you may well be over estimating the potential of the iwatch, but then again, we haven't seen the finished item yet, so I could of course be completely wrong......

  • Time To Buy Apple [View article]
Why would the production of the iphone 5 be cut just because the iphone 5S is being made?.....Did they cut production of the iphone 4S when the 5 was being made?...No....Sorry but that simply doesnt make sense. If they were discontinuing the 5 then that would be logical, but they are not, so not sure how you have arrived at that assumption.
