  • Apple: Still Calm Before The Storm [View article]
I am not sure don ( sorry but I cant see you as a goofydon...it makes me giggle...lol. ), whether people will wait for the updated ipad mini, but I wish Apple had made it with the retina display from the start as it would be cleaning up now and for Christmas.

The thing with the iphone 5 is that if I wanted one, yes I would wait, but if I am purchasing one as a present for someone, I would want it straight away, so it is a case of horses for courses.

It is also very difficult to actually pinpoint the real reason for the sell off. yes rumour of massive tax increases in the US would be a sound reason, but I dont think that is the main one. The price dropped dramatically yesterday based on what Foxconn said about supply and product yield issues and that would seem to indicate that product supply and customer delivery is the main issue. And if so, this is the most annoying thing. Cook is supposed to be a production man and so why is this happening.

People are saying that the issues are to do with assembling the 5 which would then indicate that it is a design issue, in terms of building it, etc. I cant see how Apple would have missed this, so does this represent a weakness in management?....I guess we will find out at the end of the first quarter.

Yes, except that the ipad mini is not sold out.......you can walk into the Apple store in London and walk out with one right now. According to the Apple staff, " we have thousands still available ". Might be different elsewhere, but in the UK, the most definitely have not sold out...hence the mass of tv ads on the tv over here.

Yes indeed, just like the rumour of the ipad mini earlier in the year.....which was only a rumour remember. And I disagree on your time scales. Here in the UK, Apple are literally saturating the TV channels with Ads for the ipad mini. Before if you saw one a week after the iphone 5 was released it was a lot, but now, they are on 10 plus times every evening. That says they are not attracting that much interest and whilst you are right about most people not being " geeks ", people here in the UK at least, do look at reviews before they purchase something......so Apple must be aware that the display is not up there with competitors products, so they will fix this sooner rather than later.

Well goofydon ( and I love that name by the way ), things may not quite be the way you are suggesting. With regard to the ipad mini, I have read that Apple are already designing a retina screen version for sometime early next year. The display is an issue with the ipad mini and by bringing out a retina screen version by next spring ( thats what is being said ) they have instantly made the current version obsolete. So given the knowledge that a new updated version is going to come out in march, who in their right mind is going to purchase the current version?....they did this with the ipad 3 remember and a lot of people were less than happy about that.

With regard to the iphone 5, the supply issues ( read that as yield build issues ) shows absolutely no sign of being addressed and with a 4 - 5 week wait ( at the moment ) anyone who orders one for someone as a Christmas present, wont be able to give it to them on the day. And thats the thing about Christmas presents. They are bought to give to someone on Christmas Day or Eve, etc.

And the thing about people taking the profits for tax reasons. Yes in some cases, but when I read that the large institutional investors are pulling out because of long term uncertainty, that IS a big issue.

  • VirnetX (VHC) +28.6% following its legal win against Apple. Though the ruling was related to FaceTime, VirnetX's VPN patents could theoretically be asserted against many other products - the company is also suing Cisco, Avaya, and Siemens. An Apple (AAPL) attorney sounds defiant: "VirnetX is not entitled to money for things they did not invent. The VirnetX technology, if used, is a small part of very large, complex products." Samsung and Google probably feel the same away about some other patents. (PR[View news story]
Ironic quote of the week " An Apple attorney sounds defiant: "VirnetX is not entitled to money for things they did not invent. The VirnetX technology, if used, is a small part of very large, complex products."

  • The EU is set to accept an e-book settlement offer from Apple (AAPL) and four book publishers (including NWS' HarperCollins), Reuters reports. Much like a U.S. settlement that was recently cleared, the deal will allow Amazon (AMZN) and other e-book sellers to set their own prices - in Amazon's case, that often means selling e-books at a loss. Pearson (PSO), also part of the EU's investigation, isn't part of the settlement deal. Apple is still at odds with the DOJ. [View news story]
Yes I understand that, but in the UK, I wouldn't buy anything like that from Amazon, I would go to a tool suppliers. maybe we do things differently here....

I am a little bit confused. Why would you go to Amazon to purchase a generator?.....surely like most people you would go to a shop that sells generators?

I have just bought a diesel engined generator for one of my horse breeding farm building and I went to a company that specialises in generators, not one that sells movies and DVD and books!

I am sorry, but that is total BS....Samsungs Tabs all have their name written on it on the front so if they cant see that then they must be blind and wouldn't be buying a tablet in the first place. Also, go into any phone shop that sells both Apple and others and you will see that the Apple products are also completely separate. To say people thought a Samsung phone was an Apple phone is complete BS.

  • Why Apple Will Miss Earnings And Trade Below $600 [View article]
You know when you walk on the grass where people take their dogs and you tread in something that sticks to your shoe?....well what you have just trodden in is how I see analysts. Most of them have absolutely no idea how to run a business or even how they work in terms of business models and strategies so the answer is very simply, ignore them and do your own research.

As to this article.....even if the shares do go below $600.00 so what?.....there is never going to be a better time to buy because once the supply situation is resolved and it will be, the sales volumes are going to shoot back up again so anyone who sells now is mad.

  • Why Apple Will Miss Earnings And Trade Below $600 [View article]
Its doesn't matter in the long run if they do miss, because we already know there are supply constraints which will be resolved eventually so now is a time to buy, not sell.

  • A U.S. appeals court has overturned Judge Koh's pre-trial injunction on Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy Nexus, claiming Koh's court "abused its discretion" in issuing the ban. U.S. Galaxy Nexus sales have been miniscule since Samsung launched the Galaxy S III, but the ruling could have implications for future appeals related to Apple's (AAPL) August legal win. On Dec. 6, Koh will rule on Apple's request for bans on 8 Samsung phones. (also[View news story]
