  • Research Frontiers: Incredible Technology But At What Price? [View article]
The other big problem with electrochromatic glass is that it takes a long time to change from clear to opaque or vice versa. SPD makes changes almost instantly and to any degree of light or dark. Furthermore, SPD works on plastic as well as glass. I anticipate that in time electrochromatics will disappear in favor of SPD. REFR needs the economies of scale to drop the price to make this huge leap to big financial rewards.

  • Why Low Crude Oil Prices Are Good For U.S. Pipeline Investors [View article]
I like MLPL. If pipelines do well it will do even better (and vice-versa, of course). It pays a higher dividend. I do not tare it. I just hold it for the large dividends and the capital gains. You get diversity and you don't have any K-1s with MLPL.

  • Smartglasses: Industrial Applications And Now In Retail [View article]
I don't have a clue what you are talking about. Why do't you define the product before talking about the market? I know about "Smartglass", but that seems to not be what "smartglasses" is about.

  • American Capital: Preparing For Spinoff [View article]
I remember during the financial crises articles claiming that ACAS would have to file for bankruptcy. Instead of panicking and selling, I bought more (at $0.99 per share) and now it is up over 1300%. So before you beat on management too much, consider how far they have come.

  • MLPL Delivers Growth And Solid Yield, But Is It Worth The Risk? [View article]
I've made money on this two ways. I first bought in in the 30s, so I have a nice paper gain (still). I also have generated a nice income yield, that, as you indicated, continues to grow at a nice pace. What's not to like.

Unleveraged ETNs have lower volatility, but also have a lower yield. One has to decide it the higher yield is worth it or not. That's a personal decision based on one's risk profile.

"Shold" was just a typo. "Irregardless" apparently was not. I was just trying to be helpful. No offense intended.

US population is more like 300,000,000. 1% of that is 3,000,000.

  • Research Frontiers: Mercedes-Benz And Operational Leverage Should Equal Exponential Growth [View article]
I agree. REFR has lots of potential and is not far from reaching it. It has taken them so long to this point that many have doubted them. But it looks like the patient folks will do well with this stock.

  • Sandstorm Reports Solid Q3 Earnings - Investors Should Consider This One [View article]
No point to try catching a falling knife. Gold continues to drop and so does SAND. I would wait for gold to stabilize and start up before buying.

if it couldn't cover its dividend from earnings before, it doesn't look so good with even more shares outstanding.

  • Sandstorm Gold: This Cash Flow Machine Is Well Positioned To Outperform [View article]
All depends on the price of gold gong forward. From what I see, the price may very well go down, which makes a stock highly leveraged to gold not so inviting.

Yes, but we all know that such extremely low interest rates are very unlikely to last long - and certainly not for 5 years.

  • Why Bother Diversifying, Just Buy Berkshire Hathaway [View article]
It's much harder for an investor with as much to invest as Buffett has to outperform the market, no matter how great an investor they are.

The fiduciary standard applies to only those who you allow to buy and sell without consulting you. That can be even more risky. All investors should get the knowledge to do it themselves, and if they do not have the time to do their own investing, they should keep their advisor on a short leash and watch him/her like a hawk. If you need an advisor, finding the right one may be your most important investing decision.

  • DryShips Likely To Keep Pulling Back Short-Term [View article]
The irony is that if Columbia will get tough on exports of coal, their customers will just get it shipped from elsewhere. So there should be little if any negative effect to dry bulk shipping in the long run.
