  • Why You Should Sell 3D Systems And Buy Organovo [View article]
"Pretty unique"? Something is either unique or not. There is no such thing as "pretty unique". "Unique" is one of a class of adjectives sometimes called "incomparables" (including: precise, exact, correct, whole, accurate, preferable, inevitable, possible, false; among others) that describe absolute, non-negotiable states One cannot properly use any modifiers with a incomparable adjective. I didn't mean to give you a long English lesson, but we have here a very common error that is a pet peeve of mine.

  • Potentially Good News For American Capital Agency [View article]
I believe the Fed's move was a $5 billion reduction in mortgages and $5 billion reduction in bonds; not a $10 billion reduction in bonds. I agree that the Fed having spelled out its plans publicly will help the MREITs hedge better. Kain knows his stuff. I think he is doing the right thing buying back shares at a big discount.

Gee, I thought it was an analysis of WPRT, not a Romney hit piece, that I was reading. You just killed your credibility.

  • Why Did Warren Buffett Buy Exxon Mobil? His Partner Charlie Munger Reveals All [View article]
My grandfather bought what became ExxonMobil for the equivalent of 72 cents per share (taking into account stock splits). It is now more than 125 times that amount per share and its dividends each year are a multiple of what he paid for the stock. So long term this company has been a huge winner (and continues to be). It is known for being one of the best managed companies in the U.S. It has the highest credit rating (AAA - Better that the U.S. Treasury). It has the largest gas reserves of any American company. It is very diversified vertically and horizontally in the oil and gas business. What's not to like?

  • Yield hungry investors playing in the MLP space may take caution as the sector's merits rate a Barron's cover and investor roundtable discussion. Among the selections is the popular JPMorgan Alerian MLP Index ETN (AMJ), up 17% Y/Y while yielding north of 9%, and trading at a 36% premium to NAV. [View news story]
Much better to cherry pick individual MLPs

  • Investors Should Be Wary Of InterOil [View article]
Anything is possible, but you don't seem to have any information that would prove a fraud here - nor does anyone else. Even Tilson, who has been a shor tfor a long time aqnd probably lost money on this stock, don't think it's a Bre-X, so why would you? I know of a geologist and others who have actually been to the site and claim it is the real thing. So who knows? But don't make allegations you cannot substantiate.

if it couldn't cover its dividend from earnings before, it doesn't look so good with even more shares outstanding.

  • The proposed Keystone XL pipeline would raise U.S. gasoline prices, according to the National Resources Defense Council: The pipeline would divert crude oil from the U.S. Midwest to Gulf Coast refineries geared to producing diesel fuel for export, which would reduce gasoline produced for U.S. consumers and raise production costs, making the fuel more expensive.  [View news story]
If that were true, NRDC should favor it, as it would encourage alternative fuel use, which NRDC wants.

I agree. REFR has lots of potential and is not far from reaching it. It has taken them so long to this point that many have doubted them. But it looks like the patient folks will do well with this stock.

  • American Capital Agency: Dividends To Stay Intact, Don't Expect Capital Appreciation [View article]
I wouldn't compare its performance with NLY for purposes of determining whether to buy it or not. It is more leveraged than NLY, has a higher yield, and has structured its portfolio to prevent much impact from prepayments. Those are some reasons why it has performed better than NLY. Frankly it has performed better than NLY for many quarters. Perhaps it is a better company to invest in.

  • Why Shorting U.S. Treasury Bonds Is A Safe Investment [View article]
TBT and SBND have been total disasters despite your logic. Perhaps eventually yields will rise, but to paraphrase a famous economist, eventually we are all dead. There are better ways to use one's money.
